Hans Steinhoff
Hans Steinhoff (10 March 1882 – 20 April 1945) was a German film director, best known for the propaganda films he made in the Nazi era. Life and career Steinhoff started his career as a stage actor in the 1900s and later worked as a stage director. He directed his first silent film ''Clothes Make the Man (1921 film), Clothes Make the Man'', the adaption of a novel by Gottfried Keller, in 1921. Steinhoff was a convinced Nazi and directed many propaganda films, he sometimes even wore his Nazi party membership button on the film set. His most notable films were perhaps ''Hitlerjunge Quex (film), Hitlerjunge Quex'' (1933), an influential propaganda film for the Hitler Youth, and ''Ohm Krüger'' (1940), for which he won the Mussolini Cup at the 1941 Venice Film Festival. Walter Reimann
Walter Reimann (2 June 1887 – 8 November 1936) was a German painter and art director. He was an Expressionist and member of the group of artists associated with Zurich magazine, Der Sturm. He worked on the production design of a number of films during his career, the most important of which was The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Along with fellow members of the ''Der Sturm'' group, Walter Röhrig and Hermann Warm, Reimann created skewed, dreamlike sets that distorted geometry and indicated the interior states of mind of the characters. ''The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'' was an international success and the production design has had a lasting influence on other movies - especially in the horror and film noir genres - since then. The Caligari design is echoed in the sets produced by Universal Studios for their series of classic monster movies in the 1930s. John Gottowt
John Gottowt (15 June 1881 – 29 August 1942) was an Austrian actor, stage director and film director for theatres and silent movies. He was born as Isidor Gesang in Lemberg, Austria-Hungary (present-day Lviv, Ukraine) into a Jewish family. After his education in Vienna, he joined the Deutsches Theater in Berlin in 1905, working for Max Reinhardt as an actor and director. Gottowt was mainly active in different theatres in Berlin as a character actor and director. His first silent film appearance was in Paul Wegener’s '' Der Student von Prag'' ("The Student of Prague") (1913). In 1920 he appeared in Robert Wiene's '' Genuine'' and took the main role in the early science fiction film ''Algol''. Joseph Klein (1886 - ?) was an American machinist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who served one term as a Socialist member of the Wisconsin State Assembly. Background Klein was born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1886, and received his education in the common schools of that country. In 1903 he moved to the United States, coming directly to Milwaukee. He became a machinist and eventually found a long-term job with the Chicago & Milwaukee Railway. Heinrich August Franz Schroth (23 March 1871 – 14 January 1945) was a German stage and film actor. Career Schroth was born in Pirmasens, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. He made his acting debut at the Sigmaringen Royal Theatre in 1890. In 1894 he went to the Municipal Theatre in Augsburg, in 1896 to Mainz and in 1897 to the Royal Court Theatre in Hanover. From 1899 to 1905, he spent six years as a part of the ensemble of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg and from 1905 onwards at various Berlin theatres. Eduard Clemens Franz Anna Freiherr von Wangenheim (1 August 1871 – 22 July 1961), known as Eduard von Winterstein, was an Austrian-German film actor who appeared in over one hundred fifty German films during the silent and sound eras.
