The Fades
The Fades are an English indie rock band from London, England, comprising Dave Lightfoot on guitar and vocals, James Lightfoot on bass, Jonathan "Jonny" Barnard on guitar and Alastair "Flash" Thorpe on drums. History The Fades were formed 2000 by Richmond-based brothers James and Dave Lightfoot as ''Petrol Bomb'', later ''Molotov Cocktail''. They became ''The Fades'' when guitarist Jonny Barnard joined the band in early 2002 after a ''Molotov Cocktail'' demo was featured on Steve Lamacq's show on BBC Radio 1. The band's first releases were the singles "You Say" and "Life Support" in 2003. Both songs have been played by Steve Lamacq and Zane Lowe. "You Say" was playlisted at XFM and a live session was recorded with Claire Sturgess. The Fades released the EP ''Social Misfits'' in 2004 with eight songs and they were touring with Art Brut. Claire Annette Sturgess (born 15 September 1966) is an English DJ and voiceover artist. Early life She was born in Salisbury in Wiltshire, where she grew up. She attended Avon Valley College in Durrington, Wiltshire. Career BBC Radio 1 She was a presenter on BBC Radio 1 from 1993, after working as a production assistant on the Simon Bates mid-morning show. Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR; ''Northern German Broadcasting'') is a public broadcasting, public radio and television broadcaster, based in Hamburg. Paul Baskerville
Paul Baskerville (born 3 March 1961) is an English radio disc jockey (DJ) on the German radio station Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). In 2019, he gained international popularity for possibly playing "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet" on his program in the early 1980s. Life Baskerville was born and grew up in Manchester. Art Brut are a Berlin-based English and German indie rock band. Their debut album, '' Bang Bang Rock & Roll'', was released on 30 May 2005, with its follow up, ''It's a Bit Complicated'', released on 25 June 2007. Named after French painter Jean Dubuffet's definition of outsider art – art by prisoners, loners, the mentally ill, and other marginalized people, and made without thought to imitation or presentation – South London's Art Brut were tagged by ''NME'' as part of the "Art Wave" scene that also included bands such as The Rakes, Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party. Alexander Zane Reid Lowe (born 7 August 1973) is a New Zealand radio DJ, live DJ, record producer, and television presenter. After an early career in music creation, production and DJing, he moved to the UK in 1997. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population.
