''The Essentials'' was released in 2002 and was the second greatest-hits collection of singer Laura Branigan that was issued in the United States. Many fans consider this to be superior to the previous compilation, ''The Best of Branigan ''The Best of Branigan'' is a greatest hits compilation by singer Laura Branigan to be released in the United States. Laura Ann Branigan (July 3, 1952 – August 26, 2004) was an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Her signature song, the platinum-certified 1982 single " Gloria", stayed on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 for 36 weeks, then a record for a female artist, peaking at No. 2. It also reached number one in Australia and Canada. Branigan's "Gloria" was a cover of a song written by Italian singer-songwriters Giancarlo Bigazzi and Umberto Tozzi. In 1984, she reached number one in Canada and Germany with the U.S. No. 4 hit "Self Control", which was released by Italian singer and songwriter Raf the same year. Trevor Veitch (born May 19, 1946 in Vancouver, British Columbia) is a Canadian musician/record producer who has worked behind the scenes on many pop trends from the 1960s to the present. He is mostly known for his involvement in the popular 1960s folk rock group, 3's a Crowd. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Evan, and son. Career 1960s In the 1960s, Veitch gained fame as a part of popular folk and rock group, 3's a Crowd. Veitch, who was singer Donna Warner's guitarist and accompanist, joined with Brent Titcomb to become the Bill Schwartz Quartet (a promotional name for only three musicians).
