''The Engines of God'' is a science fiction novel by American author Jack McDevitt. Plot overview A group of xeno-archaeologists, together with interstellar pilot Priscilla Hutchins, attempt to unravel the mysteries surrounding tremendous monuments left near several habitable worlds in the solar neighborhood. Plot summary Background Humanity was introduced to the existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life with the discovery of an alien statue on Iapetus, a moon of Saturn, which depicted an alien life form. Then, after the advent of faster-than-light travel, when humanity began to explore neighboring star systems, a number of other mysterious Monuments were quickly discovered. Despite these discoveries, details about the "Monument-Makers" themselves remained elusive. In fact, even after decades of exploring, humanity had found disappointingly few habitable worlds, and even fewer signs of intelligent alien life. Bob Eggleton
Bob Eggleton (born September 13, 1960) is an American science fiction, fantasy and horror artist. Eggleton is a nine-time Hugo Award–winner for Best Pro Artist in science fiction and fantasy, first winning in 1994. He won the Hugo Award for Best Related Book in 2001 for his art book ''Greetings from Earth''. He also won the Chesley Award for Artistic Achievement in 1999 and was the guest of honor at Chicon 2000. His illustrations have appeared in Dark Horse Comics, Random House ''Godzilla'' books, IDW’s ''Godzilla'' comic series and on covers for ''Famous Monsters of Filmland'' magazine. In film, he has worked as a concept artist on ''Sphere'' (1997), ''Jimmy Neutron Boy Genius'' (2001) and ''The Ant Bully'' (2006).
