The End Begins (film)
''The End Begins'' is a 1961 Australian television play shot in ABC's Melbourne studios. Like many early Australian TV plays it was based on an overseas script. It was a rare Australian TV play with a science fiction theme and a black lead actor, although no recordings are thought to have survived. Plot On an island off the west coast of Great Britain, a group of survivors of World War Three struggle to continue living. Hugh Packenham foresaw the oncoming conflict and fled to the island. His only neighbours are fisherman Shaun O'Donnell and his wife Barbara. Then other survivors seek refuge, including an African American sailor, and conflicts develop. Ray Rigby (screenwriter)
Ray Rigby (1916, Rochford – 1995, Guadalajara, Mexico) was a British screenwriter and novelist. He is mainly known for '' The Hill'', a searing account of an abusive military prison, which was directed by Sidney Lumet and was greeted with critical acclaim, winning the Best Screenplay award at the 1965 Cannes Film Festival, an honour also bestowed by the Writers' Guild of Great Britain the following year, when it also won a BAFTA for Best Screenplay. The film was inspired by Rigby's own experience in a British military prison in World War II when he spent two terms in field punishment detention centres. He co-wrote the film ''Operation Crossbow'', also released in 1965. William Sterling (director)
William Sterling (born 14 September 1926) was an Australian producer and director. He was born in Sydney, New South Wales. Biography Sterling was born in Sydney, one of two brothers. When his father was killed during World War II, Sterling left school to work in a chartered accountant's office. He served in the Royal Australian Navy then did a Bachelor of Arts at Sydney University, with Honours in English and History. He was going to be a teacher but then got a job as liaison officer between the ABC and the Department of Education. He began writing and producing radio plays, and in 1956 moved into directing television at the ABC. He moved to Melbourne in 1957. He originally directed all sorts of programs for the ABC but in October 1959 was assigned to drama full time. Audrey Rogers was his assistant. The Australian Broadcasting Company Pty. Ltd. was a company founded in Melbourne in 1924 with a capital of £A 100,000 by a consortium of entertainment interests, notably Farmer & Company, J. C. Lost Television Broadcast
Lost television broadcasts are mostly those early television programs which cannot be accounted for in studio archives (or in personal archives) usually because of deliberate destruction or neglect. Common reasons for loss A significant proportion of early television programming was never recorded in the first place. Early broadcasting in all genres was live and sometimes performed repeatedly. Due to there being no means to record the broadcast or, later, because the content itself was thought to have little monetary or historical value it was not deemed necessary to save it. In the United Kingdom, early programming was lost due to contractual demands by the actors' union to limit the rescreening of performances. Fay Kelton (Born in Tasmania between 1940–41), is an Australian former actress radio, stage and television, she relocated to Melbourne in her teens. She was a regular performer on the ABC radio serial '' Blue Hills'' (1949-1976), and also appeared in the shorter serials for commercial radio ''Danse Macabre'' and ''Forests of the Night''. Kelton also appeared in numerous television films and series, including a part based on the historical figure of Mary Bryant in the 1963 television series ''The Hungry Ones'' with Leonard Teale. Sydney Leicester Conabere (8 July 191815 July 2008) was an Australian actor. He was notable for his work in theatre, film and television drama in a career spanning more than fifty years.
