The Enclave (record Label)
The Enclave was an American record label founded in the mid-1990s by Tom Zutaut, former A&R executive for Geffen Records best known for signing Guns N' Roses. "He's great," observed Amanda Rootes of his signings Fluffy. "Very American, very cool, very into his artists."'' Select'', November 1996 The label was distributed by EMI. It was shut down in June 1997 when EMI Music decided to fold it into Virgin Records. The label was briefly re-established in 1997 when it moved over to Mercury. As it had seemingly survived the merger between Mercury parent PolyGram and Universal, it was finally shuttered in 1999 by Island/Def Jam Music Group, leading to the departure of Zutaut. Artists and repertoire (colloquially abbreviated to A&R) is the division of a record label or music publishing company that is responsible for talent scouting and overseeing the artistic development of recording artists (singers, instrumentalists, bands, and so on) and songwriters. Geffen Records is an American record label established by David Geffen and owned by Universal Music Group through its Interscope Geffen A&M Records imprint. Fluffy (band)
Fluffy were an English punk rock band from London, England, and active between 1994 and 1998. The band's most prominent lineup consisted of singer and guitarist Amanda Rootes, guitarist Bridget Jones, bassist Helen Storer, and drummer Angie Adams. The band recorded several singles, an EP, and a studio album, ''Black Eye (album), Black Eye'', in 1996. History The band formed in 1994 after classmates Amanda Rootes and Angie Adams were inspired by a jazz-blues singer in one of Old Compton Street's gay cafes. ''Select'' was a United Kingdom music magazine of the 1990s. It was known for covering indie rock, but featured a wide array of music. Launched in July 1990, its first cover star was Prince. After EMAP Metro bought ''Select'', they revamped its image, and it became known for its coverage of Britpop, a term coined in the magazine by Stuart Maconie. Its 1993 "Yanks Go Home" edition, featuring The Auteurs, Denim, Saint Etienne, Pulp and Suede's Brett Anderson on the cover in front of a Union Flag, was an important impetus in defining the movement's opposition to American genres such as grunge. Later, John Harris stepped down as editor, and was replaced by former ''Mixmag'' editor Alexis Petridis. Virgin Records is a record label owned by Universal Music Group. It originally founded as a British independent record label in 1972 by entrepreneurs Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nik Powell, and musician Tom Newman. World Party
World Party were a British musical group, which was essentially the solo project of its sole member, Karl Wallinger. He started the band in 1986 in London after leaving the Waterboys. Career After a stint as musical director of a West End performance of ''The Rocky Horror Picture Show'', Karl Wallinger joined a funk band called "The Out", before joining Mike Scott's Waterboys in 1984 to record the album ''A Pagan Place''. Drain STH (STH for Stockholm) was a rock girl band from Sweden. Biography Stockholm quartet Drain STH underwent many changes in both musical style and image. Guitarist Flavia Canel and drummer Martina Axén had been together in many acts starting with punk band Livin' Sacrifice (not to be confused with the thrash metal band Living Sacrifice). As this act progressed the sound developed into more of a hard rock vein. Livin' Sacrifice evolved into Aphrodite with Axén, Canel, vocalist Malin Ekholm, guitarist Maria "Mia" Landberg, and bassist Marianne Hall. Aphrodite folded upon Ekholm's departure in 1990.
