The Enchanted Boy
''The Enchanted Boy'' (russian: Заколдованный мальчик, ''Zakoldovanyy malchik'') is a 1955 Soviet/Russia traditionally animated feature film directed by Vladimir Polkovnikov and Aleksandra Snezhko-Blotskaya. The film is an adaptation of ''The Wonderful Adventures of Nils'' by Selma Lagerlöf. It was produced at the Soyuzmultfilm studio in Moscow. The film's image and sound were recently restored by the Russian company Krupnyy Plan, which released it on video and DVD packaged together with Cipollino', a 1961, 40-minute feature film directed by Boris Dyozhkin. No English-subtitled version has been released. Plot The naughty boy Nils, who delights in torturing animals, is bewitched by a ''tomte''. Now shrunken to a small size and able to talk to animals, he flies across Lapland on the backs of wild geese. Aleksandra Snezhko-Blotskaya
Alexandra Gavrilovna Snezhko-Blotskaya (Russian: Александра Гавриловна Снежко-Блоцкая, 21 February 1909 in Volchansk, Russian Empire – 29 December 1980 in Moscow Oblast, Soviet Union) was a Soviet animated film director. She was a longtime collaborator with Ivan Ivanov-Vano. Biography Snezhko-Blotskaya was born in Volchansk near Kharkov (modern Ukraine), before her family moved to Shatura, near Moscow. There she graduated from art studios of Ivan Rerberg and Ilya Mashkov. Snezhko-Blotskaya started her film career as designer for Soyuzkinokhronika in 1932. Since 1936, she became a constant collaborator and aide to Ivan Ivanov-Vano, a patriarch of Russian animation. Snezhko-Blotskaya participated as a co-director in many of his films including famous The Humpbacked Horse and The Snow Maiden. Animator
An animator is an artist who creates multiple images, known as frames, which give an illusion of movement called animation when displayed in rapid sequence. Animators can work in a variety of fields including film, television, and video games. Animation is closely related to filmmaking and like filmmaking is extremely labor-intensive, which means that most significant works require the collaboration of several animators. The methods of creating the images or frames for an animation piece depend on the animators' artistic styles and their field. History Of Russian Animation
The history of Russian animation is the visual art form produced by Russian animation makers. As most of Russia's production of animation for cinema and television were created during Soviet times, it may also be referred to some extent as the history of Soviet animation. It remains a nearly unexplored field in film theory and history outside Russia. Beginnings The first Russian animator was Alexander Shiryaev, a principal ballet dancer and choreographer at the Mariinsky Theatre who made a number of pioneering stop motion and traditionally animated films between 1906 and 1909. He built an improvised studio at his apartment where he carefully recreated various ballets — first by making thousands of sketches and then by staging them using hand-made puppets; he shot them using the 17.5 mm Biokam camera, frame by frame. Valentina Aleksandrovna Sperantova (russian: Валенти́на Алекса́ндровна Спера́нтова; 1904 — 1978) was a Soviet actress of theater and cinema. People's Artist of the USSR (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1953. Biography Valentina Sperantova was born on February 24, 1904, in Zaraysk (now Moscow Oblast). She had a large family headed by her father Aleksandr Dmitryevich Sperantov, secretary of the district congress. She first went on stage in her hometown of Zaraysk in an amateur theatre under the guidance of the famous sculptor Anna Golubkina. Received in Vkhutemas, but did not study there for long. In 1925 she graduated from GITIS. Since 1925, the actress of the First State Pedagogical Theater (now Moscow Youth Theater). She took part in the scoring of cartoons at the Soyuzmultfilm Studio. Fyodor Savelyevich Khitruk (russian: Фёдор Савельевич Хитрук; 1 May 1917 – 3 December 2012) was a Soviet and Russian animator and animation director. Biography Khitruk was born in Tver (Russian Empire), into a Jewish family. He came to Moscow to study graphic design at the OGIS College for Applied Arts. He graduated in 1936 and started to work with Soyuzmultfilm in 1938 as an animator. From 1962 onwards, he worked as a director. His first film ''The Story of a Crime'' was an immense success. Today, this film is seen as the beginning of a renaissance of Soviet animation after a two-decade-long life in the shadows of Socialist realism.
