Aleksander Ford
Aleksander Ford (born Mosze Lifszyc; 24 November 1908 in Kiev, Russian Empire – 4 April 1980 in Naples, Florida, United States, U.S.) was a Polish film director; and head of the Polish People's Army of Poland, People's Army Film Crew in the Soviet Union during World War II. Following the war, he was appointed director of the Film Polski company. In 1948 he was appointed as a professor of the National Film School in Łódź (Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Filmowa). Roman Polanski was among his students. Another of Ford's protégés was the Polish film director Andrzej Wajda. Following the anti-Semitic purge in the communist party in Poland, in 1968 Ford emigrated to Israel and from there through Germany and Denmark, to the United States. Tadeusz Łomnicki
Tadeusz Łomnicki (; 18 July 1927 – 22 February 1992) was a Polish actor, one of the most notable stage and film artists of his time in Poland. He is remembered mostly for his roles in comedies and dramas, as well as for the role of Kordian in Juliusz Słowacki's play of the same title. He was also a notable professor and a rector of the State Theatre School in Warsaw. Biography Born on 18 July 1927 in Podhajce near Lwów (modern Lviv, Ukraine), to a family of a post office clerk and a teacher. After graduating from a trade school in Dębica he moved to Kraków, where he started to work as railway worker and study violin play. There he spent World War II and fought against the Germans in the ranks of the Grey Ranks. Leon Stanisław Niemczyk (15 December 1923 – 29 November 2006) was a Polish actor. Niemczyk developed into a leading box-office star throughout the 1960s, known for serious dramas, including historical dramas and war films. He appeared in over 500 films and television shows over the course of his career. His most memorable roles were Fulko de Lorche in Aleksander Ford's '' The Teutonic Knights'', Andrzej in Roman Polanski's ''Knife in the Water'' and Jerzy in Jerzy Kawalerowicz's '' Night Train''. Niemczyk became an international star through positive reception for his leading role in ''Knife in the Water'' (1962), earning Polish cinema's first nomination for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Sonja Alice Selma Toni Ziemann (; 8 February 1926 – 17 February 2020) was a German film and television actress. In the 1950s, she was among Germany's most prominent actresses, awarded the 1950 Bambi for appearing, together with Rudolf Prack, in '' Schwarzwaldmädel''. From the 1960s, she turned to more serious acting in international films such as ''The Secret Ways''. She played in several anti-war films such as ''Strafbataillon 999''. She also appeared on stage and in television. Career Ziemann took dance education with Tatjana Gsovsky. Beginning in 1941, she performed in operettas and revues. After World War II, her performances primarily came at the Metropol Theater in Berlin. Ziemann began working in films when she was 15, and by age 18 "was a star of the first magnitude". Emil Karewicz (13 March 1923 – 18 March 2020) was a Polish actor. Early life His acting career began in Wilno, at the local theatre, where he played the role of a monkey in the "Quartet" by Ivan Krylov. During World War II he served in the Polish Army. He fought in the Battle of Berlin in 1945. Career After the war, he graduated from Iwo Gall Theatrical Studio (along with Ryszard Barycz, Bronisław Pawlik and Barbara Krafftówna). He played on stages in Łódź, mostly in the Jaracz Theatre and the New Theatre. Since 1962 he performed in Warsaw, in the Ateneum Theatre (''Teatr Ateneum im. Stefana Jaracza w Warszawie''), the Dramatic Theatre (''Teatr Dramatyczny w Warszawie''), and the New Theatre (''Teatr Nowy w Warszawie 1947-2005''). He retired in 1983.
