The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter
''The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter'' is a Hong Kong films of 1984, 1984 Hong Kong film by Shaw Brothers, directed by Lau Kar-leung and starring Gordon Liu, Kara Hui and Alexander Fu (in his final film appearance). It was released as ''The Invincible Pole Fighters'' outside of Hong Kong and ''Invincible Pole Fighter'' in North America. Alexander Fu died in a car accident before the filming of ''The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter'' was finished. The script was partly re-written after his death and Fu's character does not appear in the final showdown as originally written in the script. The film is based on the ''Generals of the Yang Family'' (Yeung family in Cantonese) legends. Lau Kar-leung
Lau Kar-leung (28 July 1934 – 25 June 2013), was a Chinese actor, filmmaker, choreographer, and martial artist from Hong Kong. Lau is best known for the films he made in the 1970s and 1980s for the Shaw Brothers Studio. His most famous works include ''The 36th Chamber of Shaolin'' starring Gordon Liu as well as ''Drunken Master II'' starring Jackie Chan. History Lau began learning kung fu when he was nine years old, under strict tutelage from his father. Before becoming famous, Lau worked as an extra and choreographer on black and white Wong Fei-hung movies. Mount Wutai
Mount Wutai, also known by its Chinese name Wutaishan and as is a sacred Buddhist site at the headwaters of the Qingshui in Shanxi Province, China. Its central area is surrounded by a cluster of flat-topped peaks roughly corresponding to the cardinal directions. Hsiao Ho, (Hsiao Hou) (; Cantonese: Siu Hau, born 2 March 1958 in Meixian District, Guangdong, China) is a Hong Kong martial arts film actor, stunt performer and action choreographer. A Hakka, he has acted in many films directed by Lau Kar-leung, including ''Mad Monkey Kung Fu'' and Legendary Weapons of China. In 1985 he portrayed legendary kung fu warrior Fong Sai-Yuk in the Lau directed action-comedy, ''Disciples of the 36th Chamber'' and also took a lead role in Fake Ghost Catchers, directed by Lau Kar Wing. Yang Erlang
Erlang Shen () or Erlang, also known as the Lord of Sichuan (), is a Chinese god with a third truth-seeing eye in the middle of his forehead. Erlang Shen may be a deified version of several semi-mythical folk heroes who helped regulate China's torrential floods dating variously from the Qin, Sui, and Jin dynasties. A later Buddhist source identifies him as the second son of the Northern Heavenly King Vaishravana. In the Ming semi-mythical novels '' Creation of the Gods'' and ''Journey to the West'', Erlang Shen is the nephew of the Jade Emperor. In the former, he assists the Zhou army in defeating the Shang. Wong Yue (born Wong Chi-kuen; 26 October 1955 – 15 May 2008) was a Hong Kong martial arts film actor. Background Born Wong Chi-kuen in Hong Kong on 26 October 1955. She Saihua (佘賽花) is a legendary heroine from ancient China's Northern Song Dynasty. The bagua or pakua (八卦) are a set of eight symbols that originated in China, used in Taoist cosmology to represent the fundamental principles of reality, seen as a range of eight interrelated concepts.
