''The Ed Sullivan Show '' is an American old-time radio program. More precisely, it is a name that can be applied to any of four programs that were broadcast in 1932, 1941, 1943–1944, and 1946. The first three were on CBS, and the last was on the Blue Network. As the title implies, the host of the program was Ed Sullivan, who was then known for his work as a columnist for the '' New York Daily News''. 1932 Sullivan's first program, described as "a series of gossipy talk-and-interview shows", was known for introducing people to the radio audience. Among those making their radio debuts on this 15-minute program were Jack Benny, Irving Berlin, George M. Cohan, Jack Pearl, and Florenz Ziegfeld. WCBS (880 AM, "WCBS Newsradio 880") is a radio station licensed to New York, New York and is owned and operated by Audacy, Inc. Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical theatre, musical performances, sketch comedy, magic (illusion), magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. It is normally introduced by a Master of Ceremonies, compère (master of ceremonies) or Television presenter, host. The variety format made its way from the Victorian era stage in Britain and America to radio and then television. Will Bradley
Wilbur Schwichtenberg (July 12, 1912 – July 15, 1989), known professionally as Will Bradley, was an American trombonist and bandleader during the 1930s and 1940s. He performed swing, dance music, and boogie-woogie songs, many of them written by Don Raye. Career Born in Newton, New Jersey, Bradley was raised in Washington, New Jersey. In 1928, he moved to New York City and became a member of bands such as Red Nichols & His Five Pennies. During the 1930s, he was a studio musician for CBS except for one year with the Ray Noble orchestra. In 1939, he started a big band with Ray McKinley, a swing drummer and vocalist from Texas, and changed his name from Schwichtenberg to Will Bradley. The band included Freddie Slack, Arthur Rollini, Peanuts Hucko, Lee Castle, and Pete Candoli.
