''The Duke'' is an American comedy series that aired on NBC from July 2 to September 3, 1954. The series was broadcast live. Synopsis Duke London a/k/a Duke Zenlee was a professional boxer who was also an accomplished painter. Jack Elinson
Jack Elinson (April 21, 1922 – November 17, 2011) was an American producer and screenwriter. Life and career Elinson was born and raised in New York. He served in the army during World War II. Elinson had sold a joke to Walter Winchell's newspaper column at the age of 16. He later wrote for radio programs, moving on to television programs in the 1950s, writing and producing episodes for ''The Danny Thomas Show'' with his brother. His credits include producing and writing for ''The Real McCoys'', ''The Johnny Carson Show'', ''The Colgate Comedy Hour'', ''Hey, Jeannie!,'' and '' One Day At A Time''. Paul Gilbert
Paul Brandon Gilbert is an American hard rock and heavy metal guitarist. He is the co-founder of the band Mr. Big, and was also a member of Racer X, with whom he released several albums. Phyllis Coates (born Gypsie Ann Evarts Stell; January 15, 1927) is an American former actress, with a career spanning over fifty years. She is best known for her portrayal of reporter Lois Lane in the 1951 film ''Superman and the Mole Men'' and in the first season of the television series '' Adventures of Superman''. Allen Curtis Jenkins (born Alfred McGonegal; April 9, 1900 – July 20, 1974) was an American character actor and singer who worked on stage, film, and television. Life and career Jenkins was born on Staten Island, New York, on April 9, 1900. In 1959, Jenkins played the role of elevator operator Harry in the comedy ''Pillow Talk''. Paul Gilbert (actor)
Paul Gilbert (born Ed MacMahon; December 27, 1918 – February 13, 1976) was an American film and television actor. Biography Gilbert's family were vaudeville performers, and he began his career as an aerialist until he had a fall. He continued performing music, dancing and comedy. He starred in the 1954 series '' The Duke'' as a former boxer who has decided to give up his fighting career to become a respectable nightclub owner. In the pilot episode, Gilbert sings, dances, juggles and plays four instruments in the band. Gilbert played various roles and performed on numerous shows including ''The Spike Jones Show'' in 1954. He played the role of murder victim Harrison Boring in the 1964 ''Perry Mason'' episode "The Case of the Blonde Bonanza." Sheldon Leonard Bershad (February 22, 1907 – January 11, 1997) was an American film and television actor, producer, director, and screenwriter. Early life Sheldon Leonard Bershad was born in Manhattan, New York City, the son of middle-class Jewish parents Anna Levit and Frank Bershad. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1929.
