Kenora
Kenora (), previously named Rat Portage (french: Portage-aux-Rats), is a city situated on the Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada, close to the Manitoba boundary, and about east of Winnipeg by road. It is the seat of Kenora District. The history of the name extends beyond the time of white settlers arriving in the region. The name Rat Portage had its origin in the Ojibwa name Waszush Onigum, which roughly translated, means portage to the country of the muskrats. A shortened and somewhat corrupted version, Rat Portage, was adopted by the Hudson’s Bay Company in naming their post, then located on Old Fort Island on the Winnipeg River. When the post was moved to the mainland and a town grew up around it, the name Rat Portage was assumed by the community. Marc Kennedy
Marc Kennedy (born February 5, 1982) is a Canadian curler, and Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic gold medallist from St. Albert, Alberta. In 2019, Kennedy was named the greatest Canadian male second in history in a TSN poll of broadcasters, reporters and top curlers. Career Kennedy was born in St. Albert, Alberta, the son of Don and Connie. He started curling at age six. He is a Canadian Winter Games champion and three-time provincial junior champion. He won his first provincial men's championship with Kevin Martin in 2007. As a junior, he played second for Carter Rycroft at the 1998 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and played third for Jeff Erickson at the 1999 and 2001 Canadian Juniors. Fort William Curling Club
The Fort William Curling Club is a curling club located in the Downtown Fort William neighbourhood of Thunder Bay, Ontario. The club hosted the Canadian men's curling championship in 1960 and the Canadian women's curling championship in 1969. It is also the home club of World Men's curling champions Al Hackner, Rick Lang, Bob Nicol, Bruce Kennedy, Ian Tetley, and Pat Perroud. History The Fort William Curling Club was established in Fort William (now Thunder Bay) on September 18, 1891, on property leased by Peter and John McKellar. It was originally part of the Manitoba Curling Association. The rink was destroyed by fire twice, in 1892 and 1908. The current facility, with artificial ice, opened on March 10, 1951, as the Fort William Curling and Athletic Club. The club is adjacent to the Fort William Gardens. Mike Jeffrey McCarville is a Canadian curler from Thunder Bay, Ontario. He currently plays third on Team Trevor Bonot. Career McCarville played lead for Team Northern Ontario, skipped by Joe Scharf, at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in 1999 and 2000, finishing with a 7–5 record and missing playoffs both times. Jeff Currie
Jeff Currie (born c. 1976) is a Canadian curler from Thunder Bay, Ontario. He is a former Canadian Junior champion. He currently curls for the Eveleth, Minnesota-based Joe Polo rink on the World Curling Tour. During his junior career, Currie won just one Northern Ontario provincial junior title, in 1996 defeating Dusty Jakomait in the provincial junior final. Currie made his lone provincial junior title count at the 1996 Canadian Junior Curling Championships representing Northern Ontario. Currie skipped a rink which consisted of Greg Given, Andrew Mikkelsen and Tyler Oinonen. The team finished the round robin of the event in 2nd place, with an 8-4 record.
