The Doctors' Association UK
The Doctors’ Association UK (DAUK) is a professional association for doctors in the United Kingdom. The association was formed by junior doctors led by Dr Samantha Batt-Rawden in January 2018 in response to the Bawa-Garba case. DAUK is a non-profit organisation which advocates for the medical profession and the wider NHS. The association has led several campaigns which have received widespread media attention. Learn Not Blame Although the Learn Not Blame started gathering momentum in January 2018 due to the High Court judgment in the case of Hadiza Bawa-Garba, the campaign was formally launched by DAUK in the House of Commons in November 2018. Samantha Batt-Rawden
Dr Samantha Batt-Rawden is a British intensive care and pre-hospital doctor. Medical career Batt-Rawden trained at the University of Bristol. She chose to specialise in emergency medicine in 2014, but left the speciality citing burnout and staff shortages, in a BBC Radio 4 documentary she presented. She currently works as a consultant in intensive care medicine and pre-hospital emergency medicine. Advocacy career Batt-Rawden founded The Doctors' Association UK in 2018, following the premature birth of her son at 27 weeks who required a 3 month stay in ICU. She says this experience has made her determined to fight for the NHS. She stepped down from the role in 2021. She was widely quoted by media during the Bawa-Garba case and has given evidence to Parliament on creating a just culture in healthcare. The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is a registered trade union in the United Kingdom for those in the profession of nursing. It was founded in 1916, receiving its royal charter in 1928. It was launched on 8 January 2017 and is currently broadcast on Sundays at 8:30am to 9:30am. Led By Donkeys is a British political campaign group, established in December 2018 as an anti-Brexit group, but which has also criticised other actions of the Conservative government. Since the group's creation its four founders have been calling out what they call "thermonuclear hypocrisy" and used satire targeted at pro-Brexit politicians. Led By Donkeys' main campaign consists of billboards containing past tweets by pro-Brexit politicians, or quotes presented as tweets. These tweets state the politicians' previous political positions, which according to the group have not stood the test of time. The campaign was initially run as a guerilla operation, in which Led By Donkeys posters were plastered over existing adverts.
