''The Diamond Master'' is a 1929 film serial directed by Jack Nelson. The film is considered to be lost. It is based on a story by Jacques Futrelle who was one of the 1500 victims in the Titanic disaster in 1912. Jack Nelson (actor)
Jack Nelson (October 15, 1882 – November 10, 1948) was an American actor and film director of the silent era. He appeared in more than 80 films between 1910 and 1935. He also directed 58 films between 1920 and 1935. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee and died in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. Biography Upon arriving in North Bay, Nelson took over management of the Capital Theatre, one of two movie theatres in North Bay at the time. Years later after World War Two broke out, Nelson played an important role in the nine national Victory Loan Drives (1941–1945). Acting as chairman of public relations, Nelson served on the Nipissing District National War Finance Committee. His duties included organizing parades, corresponding with the local North Bay Daily Nugget Newspaper, and hosting occasional free movie admission nights for residents who purchased bonds. This is a list of film serials by studio, separated into those released by each of the five major studios, and the remaining minor studios. The five major studios produced the greater number of serials. Of these the main studios are considered to be Columbia Pictures, Universal Pictures, and Republic Pictures. All three were active during the 1930s and 1940s. The other two major studios are Mascot Pictures, which later merged into Republic, and Pathé Exchange, which ceased serial production before the advent of sound. Jacques Futrelle
Jacques Heath Futrelle (April 9, 1875 – April 15, 1912) was an American journalist and mystery writer. He is best known for writing short detective stories featuring Professor Augustus S. F. X. Van Dusen, also known as "The Thinking Machine" for his use of logic. He died in the sinking of the RMS ''Titanic''. Career Futrelle was born in Pike County, Georgia. He worked for the ''Atlanta Journal'', where he began their sports section, the '' New York Herald'', the ''Boston Post'' and the ''Boston American'', where, in 1905, his Thinking Machine character appeared in a serialized version of the short story, "The Problem of Cell 13". Futrelle left the ''Boston American'' in 1906 to write novels. He had a harbor-view house built in Scituate, Massachusetts, which he called "Stepping Stones" and spent most of his time there until his death in 1912. RMS ''Titanic'' was a British passenger liner, operated by the White Star Line, which sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on 15 April 1912 after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City, United States.
