The Devil On Wheels (1947 Film)
''The Devil On Wheels'' is a 1947 American drama film directed by Crane Wilbur and starring Darryl Hickman. In addition to being the first film about street racing youth, it is also notable for being one of the first films to feature actresses ( Terry Moore and Noreen Nash) wearing bikini tops. A few scenes from one of the street races depicted were later reused in the opening of the 1950 film ''Hot Rod'', also about street racing in Southern California. Plot The film is an early morality play on the dangers of speeding behind the wheel. Crane Wilbur (November 17, 1886 – October 18, 1973) was an American writer, actor and director for stage, radio and screen. He was born in Athens, New York. Wilbur is best remembered for playing Harry Marvin in '' The Perils of Pauline''. James Cardwell (born Albert Paine Cardwell; November 21, 1921 – January 31, 1954) was an American actor who appeared in more than 20 Hollywood films in the 1940s. Career Cardwell is probably best known for his debut as George Sullivan in 1944's Oscar-nominated ''The Fighting Sullivans'', based on the true story of five navy brothers who died in action together when their ship was torpedoed in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
