The Deserter (1912 Film)
''The Deserter'' is a 1912 American silent black-and-white two-reel Western film written and directed by Thomas H. Ince. It was released March 15, 1912 and starred Francis Ford and Ethel Grandin. The film was screened in December 2006 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, as part of a retrospective on Thomas H. Ince. The film is available at the Library of Congress. Plot The story concerns a soldier who deserts his regiment and encounters a wagon train of settlers. Winnie Baldwin (April 7, 1894 – October 7, 1969) was an American vaudevillian, film actress, and playwright. Early life and career Baldwin was born in Kentucky on April 7, 1894.Ancestry.com. Ray Myers (June 21, 1889 – November 4, 1956) was an American film actor and director of the silent film era. He appeared in 43 films between 1912 and 1924. Francis Ford (actor)
Francis Ford (born Francis Joseph Feeney; August 14, 1881 – September 5, 1953) was an American film actor, writer and director. He was the mentor and elder brother of film director John Ford. He also appeared in many of the latter's movies, including ''Young Mr. Lincoln'' (1939) and ''The Quiet Man'' (1952). Biography Ford was born in Portland, Maine. He was the son of John Augustine Feeney, who was born in the village of Spiddal, County Galway, Ireland, on June 15, 1854. His mother was Barbara "Abbey" Curran. By 1878, John had moved to Portland, Maine, and opened a saloon, at 42 Center Street, that used a false front to pose as grocery store. John opened four others in following years.
