Edmund Mortimer (actor)
Edmund Mortimer (born Edmund Mortimer Olson; August 21, 1874 – May 21, 1944) was an American actor and film director. Early years Mortimer's family was "prominent socially in Brooklyn and Washington". His father (also named Edmund Mortimer Olson) was a captain in the U. S. Navy. As a boy, Mortimer sang in church choirs and participated in other musical activities in Brooklyn. His military service included membership; in the Second Naval Battalion and in Company C, 23rd Regiment. Career Mortimer began acting on stage in 1904 and went on to perform with several theatrical companies. He appeared in more than 250 films between 1913 and 1945. He also directed 23 films between 1918 and 1928, including ''The Arizona Romeo'' (1925). William Haines
Charles William Haines (January 2, 1900 – December 26, 1973) was an American actor and interior designer. Haines was discovered by a talent scout and signed with Goldwyn Pictures in 1922. His career gained momentum when he received favorable reviews for his role in '' The Midnight Express''. He was cast in the 1926 film '' Brown of Harvard'' and his performance solidified his screen persona as a wisecracking, arrogant leading man. By the end of the 1920s, Haines had appeared in a string of successful films and was a popular box-office draw. Haines' acting career was cut short by the studios in the 1930s due to his refusal to deny his homosexuality. He quit acting in 1935 and started a successful interior design business with his life partner Jimmie Shields, and his work was widely patronized by friends in Hollywood. Claude Payton
Claude Duval Payton (March 30, 1882 in Centerville, Iowa – March 1, 1955 in Los Angeles, California) was an American actor in many silent films and other films. On stage, Claude Payton toured with the Spooner Stock Company, which was headed by his brother, Corse Payton, and his sister, Cecil Spooner. By 1914, Claude was working at the Thanhouser film producing company in New Rochelle, New York, where he mainly played the roles of villains or lawmen in Western films. Although Claude Payton survived the transition from silent movies to films with sound, in 1935 he was mainly in minor supporting roles in films. Claude retired from the filmmaking business in the mid-1940s. He appeared in 17 Broadway theatre, Broadway plays between 1906 and 1920, and in more than 150 films between 1915 and 1937. Wilhelm Fried Fuchs ( hu, Fried Vilmos; January 1, 1879 – May 8, 1952), commonly and better known as William Fox, was a Hungarian-American film industry executive who founded the Fox Film Corporation in 1915 and the Fox West Coast Theatres chain in the 1920s. Although he lost control of his film businesses in 1930, his name was used by 20th Century Fox (now ''20th Century Studios'') and continues to be used in the trademarks of the present-day Fox Corporation, including the Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox News, Fox Sports and Foxtel. In his early film appearances, he was credited as Charles Jones. Early life, military service Jones was born Charles Frederick Gebhart on the outskirts of Vincennes, Indiana, on December 12, 1891—some sources indicate December 4, 1889, but his marriage license and military records confirm the 1891 date. In 1907 he joined the United States Army a month after his 16th birthday: his mother had signed a consent form that gave his age as 18.
