''The Demon'' is a 1926 American silent film, silent Western (genre), Western film directed by Clifford Smith (director), Clifford Smith and starring Jack Hoxie, Lola Todd, and William Welsh (actor), William Welsh. Plot As described in a film magazine review, raiders are burning the property of cattle ranchers. Dane Gordon, posing as an ex-convict, joins the gang and falls in love with Goldie Fleming, stenographer of Bat Jackson, the brains of the outfit. Dane leads a posse against the outlaws. A plot to blow up Dane and his men fails. The outlaws are rounded up. Bat is shot dead while Dane is stalking him. Dane finds Goldie is largely responsible for their success. Clifford Smith (director)
Clifford Smith (1894–1937) was an American film director who also occasionally film actor, acted and film producer, produced. He directed over eighty films between 1915 and 1937 as well as several serial film, serials, doing much of his work for Universal Pictures. Primarily a director of western film, westerns he worked with leading genre stars such as William S. Hart. Harry Semels
Harry Semels (November 20, 1887 – March 2, 1946) was an American film actor. He appeared in over 315 film between 1917 and 1946. Career Semels appeared in his first film in 1917. He began to achieve fame after arriving at Columbia Pictures, appearing in several Three Stooges shorts including ''Disorder in the Court'', ''Wee Wee Monsieur'' and ''Three Little Sew and Sews''. He also appeared in feature films like ''Road to Morocco'', ''The Princess and the Pirate'' and ''The Kid from Brooklyn''. A versatile character actor, Semels often appeared as villains, waiters, soldiers, lawyers, et al. Personal life Semels was Jewish and had two children, Ruth and David, who was killed in action during World War II. Death Semels died of a heart attack on March 2, 1946, in Hollywood, California.
