''The Deadlight Sessions'' is an EP from American rock band Heaven Below. The album was released on August 13, 2013 through Broken Halo Media. Composition The album takes a more acoustic approach than previous albums. This was done due to the success of the acoustic version of their song "When Daylight Dies". The fourth track from the album "The Needle Lies Again" was written about Paul Gray from Slipknot, who died in 2010 of a drug overdose. The song talks about the overwhelming feeling of hurt and anxiety that exists when having to deal with the death of a close companion. Heaven Below is an American hard rock band based in Los Angeles. The band's debut album ''Countdown to Devil'' was released March 2009. History The band was formed in late 2007 by Patrick Kennison ( Union Underground), Marty O'Brien ( Disturbed, We Are the Fallen) and session drummer Chad Clark to film a video for Kennison's song "The Laughing Dead". In 2008 guitarist Dave Comer was added completing the quartet. Later that year Comer and O'Brien were replaced by guitarist Jesse Billson and bassist John Younger respectively. ''Heaven Below'' is the self-titled EP from rock ensemble Heaven Below. The album was released on August 17, 2010. Composition The band had been closing shows on their then recent inaugural tour with audience favorite "Ace of Spades" by Motörhead. At one of their rehearsals, Patrick Kennison jokingly sung "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benatar over the instrumentals for "Ace of Spades". Because the band enjoyed how "Heartbreaker" sounded, they decided to record a studio version of the song. In addition to the six main tracks, the album contains a CD with 4 bonus tracks and 4 music videos, one of which is " Twilight Zone", originally recorded by Dutch rock band Golden Earring. Paul Gray (American Musician)
Paul Dedrick Gray (April 8, 1972 – May 24, 2010) was an American musician, also known as the Pig. He was the bassist, backing vocalist, main songwriter and one of the founding members of the heavy metal band Slipknot, in which he was designated #2. Early life and career Paul Dedrick Gray was born in Los Angeles, California. Later his family relocated to Des Moines, Iowa. He played guitar but switched to bass after he relocated to Iowa. In his youth, Gray performed in bands such as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, Anal Blast, Vexx, Body Pit, The Have Nots and Inveigh Catharsis. At the time of his death, he was one of three original members of Slipknot remaining in the band, and the only one who had maintained his original role in the band due to Clown's switch from main drums to percussion during the early days. Slipknot is an American heavy metal band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray. After several lineup changes in its early years, the band settled on nine members for more than a decade: Crahan, Jordison, Gray, Craig Jones, Mick Thomson, Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson, Chris Fehn, and Jim Root.
