The Dave Garroway Show (TV Program)
''The Dave Garroway Show'' is an American television variety program that was broadcast on NBC from October 2, 1953, to June 25, 1954. Vincent Terrace's ''Encyclopedia of Television Shows, 1925 through 2010'' described the show as "A casual program of music, songs, and chatter." The 30-minute program was broadcast on Friday nights. As the title indicated, Dave Garroway was the host. For the nine months that the program aired on Friday evenings, he was also host of the ''Today'' morning program. Dave Garroway
David Cunningham Garroway (July 13, 1913 – July 21, 1982) was an American television personality. He was the founding host and anchor of NBC's ''Today'' from 1952 to 1961. His easygoing and relaxing style belied a lifelong battle with depression. Garroway has been honored for his contributions to radio and television with a star for each on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the St. Louis Walk of Fame, the city where he spent part of his teenaged years and early adulthood. Early life Born in Schenectady, New York, Garroway was of Scottish descent. By the time Garroway was 14, he had moved with his family 13 times, finally settling in St. Louis, Missouri, where he attended University City High School and Washington University in St. Louis, from which he earned a degree in abnormal psychology. John Thomas Haskell (April 30, 1919 – September 26, 1998) was an American singer and announcer in the era of old-time radio and later in television. Jill Corey
Jill Corey (born Norma Jean Speranza; September 30, 1935 – April 3, 2021) was an American popular standards singer. She was discovered and signed on one day when she was 17. She went on to have her own radio shows and to star in a feature film. Biography Italian-American, Corey was born in Avonmore, Pennsylvania, a coal mining community about forty miles east of Pittsburgh. Her father, Bernard Speranza, was a coal miner, and she was the youngest of five children. Her mother died when she was four years old. She was a 1953 graduate of Bell-Avon High School. Corey began singing as an imitator of Carmen Miranda at family gatherings, on amateur shows in grade school, and contralto in the local church choir. At the age of 13, she began to develop her own style. She won first prize at a talent contest sponsored by the Lions Club, which entitled her to sing a song on WAVL in Apollo, Pennsylvania. Cliff Norton
Clifford Charles Norton (March 21, 1918 – January 25, 2003) was an American character actor and radio announcer who appeared in various movies and television series over a career spanning four decades. Early years Norton was born in Chicago, and grew-up there, graduating from Senn High School. His early jobs included selling shoes and working as a floorwalker. His first broadcasting experience came as a disc jockey at a radio station there. During World War II he was a bombardier in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Career Norton was probably best known as the announcer for Dave Garroway's radio program. He also appeared on an episode of ''The Dick Van Dyke Show'' (Season 2, Episode 11) as a game warden sent out to nab a woodpecker terrorizing Richie in "A Bird in the Head Hurts" . Diane Sinclair (born Miriam Rosen; April 6, 1921 – May 14, 2011) was an American actress and dancer from 1939 through the 1950s. Early life Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sinclair was the daughter of Max Rosen and Sylvia Morrison Rosen, who met as actors in amateur plays. As a child, she performed on the Horn and Hardart Children's hour radio show and danced in shows at summer resorts in the Catskills. Career Sinclair began her Broadway career at age 18 in 1939.
