The Dark Swan (film)
''The Dark Swan'' is a 1924 American drama film directed by Millard Webb and written by Frederick J. Jackson. It is based on the 1924 novel ''The Dark Swan'' by Ernest Pascal. The film stars Marie Prevost, Monte Blue, Helene Chadwick, John Patrick, Lilyan Tashman, and Vera Lewis. The film was released by Warner Bros. on November 26, 1924. Plot As described in a review in a film magazine, because she is a clever vamp, Eve Quinn (Prevost) has generally had her way with men, while her sister Cornelia (Chadwick), a quiet, deep-thinking girl, cannot bring herself to deliberately pursue them. So Eve wins Lewis Dike (Blue), who Cornelia loves. Immediately after her marriage, Eve begins a series of dangerous adventures with Wilfred Meadows (Patrick). Lewis learns of them and endeavors to reason with his wife, but she will not listen to him. As Cornelia plans to sail for Europe, Lewis meets her at the dock. Millard Webb
Millard Webb (December 6, 1893 – April 21, 1935) was an American screenwriter and director who directed 20 films between 1920 and 1933. His best-known film is the 1926 silent John Barrymore adventure ''The Sea Beast (1926 film), The Sea Beast'', a version of ''Moby Dick'', costarring Dolores Costello. Webb also directed the early sound Florenz Ziegfeld produced talkie ''Glorifying the American Girl'' released by Paramount Pictures, Paramount in 1929. In 1927 he directed ''Naughty but Nice (1927 film), Naughty but Nice'', produced by John McCormick (producer), John McCormick and First National Pictures. His active years were from 1916 to 1933. He was married to Lydia Stocking (1918–1923). Mary Eaton married Webb in 1929, but they separated. He was born in Clay City, Kentucky, U.S., and died in Los Angeles, California of intestinal ailment at the age of 40. Carl Miller (August 9, 1894 – January 20, 1979), was an American film actor. He appeared in 48 films between 1917 and 1942 and remains perhaps best known for his roles in two Charlie Chaplin films, ''The Kid'' (1921) and ''A Woman of Paris'' (1923). He was born in Wichita County, Texas, and died in Honolulu, Hawaii. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library."
