The Dark Mirror (1920 Film)
''The Dark Mirror'' is a 1920 American silent drama film and horror film directed by Charles Giblyn and written by E. Magnus Ingleton, based upon the story of the same name by Louis Joseph Vance. The film stars Dorothy Dalton in a dual role, Huntley Gordon, Walter D. Nealand, Jessie Arnold, Lucille Carney, Pedro de Cordoba, and Donald MacPherson. The film was released on May 9, 1920, by Paramount Pictures. It is listed as ''Jericho'' in some film reference guides. The film survives. Plot As described in a film magazine, New York society member Priscilla Maine (Dalton) is troubled by strange dreams in which she vividly sees members of the underworld involved in a murder. She confides this to her admirer, Dr. Philip Fosdick (Gordon), who undertakes to solve the mystery. As if to make her dreams come true, a gang of thugs mistakes her for Nora, a belle of the Bowery, and kidnaps her. Charles Giblyn
Charles Giblyn (September 6, 1871 – March 14, 1934) was an American film director and actor of the silent era. He directed nearly 100 films between 1912 and 1927. He also appeared in 23 films between 1914 and 1934. He was one of the founders of the Motion Picture Directors Association. Beginning in 1914, Giblyn worked with the Universal Motion Picture Manufacturing Company. He founded Albion Productions, a film production company, in 1922. Giblyn was also the screenwriter for ''Scandal'' (1917). On Broadway, Giblyn acted in ''The Song of the Sword'' (1899), ''Wheels Within Wheels'' (1899), and ''The Ambassador'' (1900). Giblyn was born in Watertown, New York and died in Los Angeles, California. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Jessie Arnold (December 3, 1884 – May 5, 1955) was an American character and film actress. She was a character actress who appeared in more than 150 films from silent shorts to the early 1950s. She starred in the 1916 film ''Cross Purposes'' directed by William Worthington. In 1916 she joined Universal City's stock company after touring Australia and "the Orient".
