The Dakotas (band)
The Dakotas is a group of British musicians, which initially convened as a backing band in Manchester, England. Their original vocalist was Pete McLaine who Brian Epstein replaced with the singer Billy J. Walk, Don't Run (instrumental)
"Walk, Don't Run" is an instrumental composition written and originally recorded by jazz guitarist Johnny Smith in 1954. It was later adapted and re-recorded by Chet Atkins in 1956, and was a track on the LP ''Hi-Fi In Focus''. This arrangement was the inspiration for the version by The Ventures in 1960 (though the Ventures' arrangement is recognizably different from Atkins' finger-picked style) and achieved world-wide recognition, being regarded by ''Rolling Stone'' magazine as one of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time. The Ventures recording After hearing a Chet Atkins recording of "Walk, Don't Run", the Tacoma-based instrumental rock band The Ventures released their version of the tune as a single in spring 1960 on Dolton Records. It is also the title of a documentary film on George Martin co-produced by the BBC's ''Arena'' team and released in 2012 by Eagle Rock Entertainment on DVD and Blu-ray. The audio box set was issued to commemorate Martin's 50-year career as a record producer. The recordings are not in chronological order, but are instead grouped together by common themes. The Challengers (band)
The Challengers were an instrumental surf rock band started in Los Angeles, California, in late 1962. They represented a growing love for surf music and helped make the genre popular. Their debut album, ''Surfbeat'', was the biggest-selling surf album of all time and helped bring surf music from California to the rest of the world. Overview The band was formed out of the pioneer surf band called The Bel-Airs. The Bel-Airs were still in high school at the time, but scored a hit with an instrumental song titled "Mr. Moto". Their potential was cited by many, but it was an argument about use of the then new Fender reverb unit that led to their breakup. The Bel-Airs were originally formed by two guitarists, Eddie Bertrand and Paul Johnson, both 16 years old at the time they recorded "Mr. Moto".
