The Crownhate Ruin
The Crownhate Ruin was an American short-lived post-hardcore band from Washington, D.C. Formed by ex- Hoover members Fred Erskine and Joe McRedmond, the band also featured Vin Novara (ex-1.6 Band) on drums. History Hoover disbanded after a 1994 US tour. That same year the Crownhate Ruin began touring and recording what would eventually become a collection of singles, as well as a split with Boston band Karate. In 1996 they released their only full-length album, '' Until the Eagle Grins'', on Dischord Records before splitting up later that year. Later on, the three members would collaborate on recordings or in performances for The Boom, HiM, and The Sorts. Erskine went on to join June of 44 before Hoover reunited. Post-hardcore
Post-hardcore is a punk rock music genre that maintains the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk but emphasizes a greater degree of creative expression. It was initially inspired by post-punk and noise rock. Like post-punk, the term has been applied to a broad constellation of groups. Post-hardcore began in the 1980s with bands like Hüsker Dü and Minutemen (band), Minutemen. The genre expanded in the 1980s and 1990s with releases by bands from cities that had established hardcore scenes, such as Fugazi from Washington, D.C. as well as groups such as Big Black and Jawbox that stuck closer to post-hardcore's noise rock roots. Dischord Records is a Washington, D.C.-based independent record label specializing in punk rock. The label is co-owned by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson, who founded Dischord in 1980 to release ''Minor Disturbance'' by their band The Teen Idles. HiM (band)
HiM is a dub influenced post-rock group formed in 1995 by Doug Scharin, drummer for the bands Codeine, Rex and June of 44. Their first album, ''Egg'', was their most dub-based effort. Each successive album has gone more in a quasi- world music direction. After some recording for ''Crooklyn Dub Consortium'' and Wordsound, ''Interpretive Belief System'', HiM settled on a lineup of Scharin with Bundy K. Brown, Rob Mazurek and Jeff Parker, members or occasional members of Tortoise and Isotope 217. Their first album was the underground hit ''Sworn Eyes'', produced by Doug Scharin. A few personnel changes followed, and the revamped lineup including members of June of 44. The Boom (band)
The Boom is a Japanese rock band. Its members are Kazufumi Miyazawa (vocals), (guitar), Yamakawa Hiromasa (bass guitar), and Tochigi Takao (drums). History The four musicians, friends from Yamanashi Prefecture, formed the band in 1986 as a '' hokoten'' street band in Tokyo. They soon began getting club gigs and a record deal with Sony, with whom they released their first album, ''A Peacetime Boom'', in 1989. Vocalist Kazufumi Miyazawa who is the composer and lyricist for The Boom was inspired by the music of Okinawa. A single CD " Shima Uta" was released in 1993 with high sales, which reached approximately 1.5 million and brought fame to the band, around the world as well as at home. Karate is an American band, formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1993 by Geoff Farina, Eamonn Vitt and Gavin McCarthy, with Jeff Goddard joining in 1995. The band split up in 2005 before reuniting in 2022. The band is characterized by fusion of indie rock, emo, post-hardcore, post-rock and jazz, with the jazz influence becoming more dominant in later releases. History In 1993, Karate was formed by Geoff Farina (vocals, guitar), Eamonn Vitt (bass) and Gavin McCarthy (drums). In 1995, Jeff Goddard joined the band as bass player, and Vitt moved to second guitar.
