The Cross (2009 Film)
''The Cross'' (also known as ''The Cross: The Arthur Blessitt Story'') is a 2009 documentary film directed by Matthew Crouch, in his directorial debut. The film chronicles Arthur Blessitt's Guinness World Record-setting journey of 38,102 miles of forty years "into every nation and major island group of the world" while carrying a twelve-foot wooden cross. Production Twenty years earlier Crouch had made a documentary about Blessitt. Then, in the summer of 2008, Crouch and Blessitt "ran into each other" on the cusp of Blessitt's final trip to Zanzibar, an island off the coast of the continent of Africa, which gave them the idea to create a brand new documentary that would finish telling the story of Blessitt's journey. Box office ''The Cross'' opened on March 27, 2009 in 221 theaters, and grossed approximately $300,000. It made $741,557 total. Matthew Crouch
Matthew W. "Matt" Crouch /kraʊtʃ/ (born October 26, 1961) is an American broadcaster, on-air personality, and filmmaker. A second-generation television producer and executive, he is currently president of Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), and serves as the primary host (along with his wife Laurie) of the network's flagship program ''Praise''. Personal life The younger of Paul and Jan Crouch's two children, Matt was born in Muskegon, Michigan, where his parents worked as assistant pastors at a local Assemblies of God outpost. The family later moved to California, where his parents would co-found Trinity Broadcasting Network in 1973. Crouch married Laurie Orndorff on August 25, 1985. They are the parents of two sons, Caylan and Cody. Arthur Owen Blessitt (born October 27, 1940) is a traveling Christian preacher who is known for carrying a cross through every nation of the world. Biography Early life and career Blessitt was born in Greenville, Mississippi, and grew up in northeast Louisiana, where his father managed a large cotton farm. At the age of seven, Blessitt became a Christian. He studied at Mississippi College and Golden Gate Baptist Seminary, but abandoned his studies to serve as a pastor in several Baptist churches across the US. In the late 1960s, Blessitt began preaching in Hollywood, California. There he became known as the "Minister of Sunset Strip". In March 1968, he opened a coffee house called ''His Place'' in a rented building next door to a topless go-go club.
