The Cricketer
''The Cricketer'' is a monthly English cricket magazine providing writing and photography from international, county and club cricket. The magazine was founded in 1921 by Sir Pelham Warner, an ex-England captain turned cricket writer. Warner edited the magazine until 1963. Later editors included E. W. Swanton, Christopher Martin-Jenkins and Simon Hughes. Apart from its coverage of the contemporary game, ''The Cricketer'' has also contributed to the sport's history. For example, its researchers uncovered a letter in ''The Weekly Journal'' dated 21 July 1722, which is our source for an early fixture in Islington between London and Dartford on 18 July 1722. The magazine is responsible for the National Village Cup, an annual competition between village cricket sides, with the final played at Lord's. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Lord's Cricket Ground, commonly known as Lord's, is a cricket venue in St John's Wood, London. Bradford Literature Festival
The Bradford Literature Festival (sometimes abbreviated to BLF) is a spoken and written word event that promotes literature and is held for ten days annually over June and July in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The first event was held in 2014 and was attended by 968 people; by the time of the 2018 event, the attendance had risen to over 70,000. The event is noted for its attendance by minority groups and writers, with over 50% of attendees coming from BAME backgrounds. The ''Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph'' is the local newspaper for north and east Northamptonshire and is the sister paper of Northampton's '' Chronicle & Echo''. It is based at Newspaper House in Rothwell Road, Kettering, and has since 1996 been part of the Johnston Press newspaper group. John Andrew Afford (born 12 May 1964) is a former English first-class cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a left-arm slow bowler who played for Nottinghamshire. He is now a businessman.
