The Creatures (Australian Band)
The Creatures were a garage rock band which formed in Mildura, Australia in 1965 as The Beagle Boys. They changed their name in February 1966 and relocated to Sydney where they were active during the mid- to late 1960s. The line-up included three Marcic brothers: Eric on guitar, Herman on bass guitar, and Rudolph on drums; together with Keith Matcham on lead vocals and Michael Parnis on rhythm guitar. Australian music journalist, Glenn A. Baker, described their appearance: "at a time when moderate long hair was becoming acceptable, heydyed their tatty locks to bilious pastel shades and invited the media to react with appropriate horror". The group were billed as "the wildest, longest, coloured hair group in Australia, and 'Australia's answer to the Rolling Stones'". Mildura is a regional city in north-west Victoria, Australia. Located on the Victorian side of the Murray River, Mildura had a population of 34,565 in 2021. 3CR Melbourne
3CR is a community radio station that broadcasts on the AM band and on the digital spectrum as 3CR Digital in Melbourne, Australia. It features mainly talk-based programs with political (particularly trade unions) and environmental themes, as well as some music and community language-based programs. Today the station hosts over 130 programs presented by over 400 volunteers. The radio station is located in Smith Street, Fitzroy, Victoria. Initially broadcasting on 837 kHz, 3CR now broadcasts on 855 kHz at 2 kW into a directional aerial, from a site at Hoppers Crossing about 15 km west of Melbourne. History The station's broadcasting licence was approved on 10 October 1975, by the Minister for the Media, Dr Moss Cass. Sherbet (band)
Sherbet (aka Highway or The Sherbs) was one of the most successful Australian rock bands of the 1970s. The 'classic line-up' of Daryl Braithwaite on vocals, Tony Mitchell (musician), Tony Mitchell on bass guitar, Garth Porter on keyboards, Alan Sandow on drums, and Clive Shakespeare on guitar provided their teen-oriented pop style. In 1976 Shakespeare left and was soon replaced by Harvey James. Sherbet's biggest singles were "Summer Love (Sherbet song), Summer Love" (1975) and "Howzat" (1976), both reaching Chart-topper, number one in Australia. "Howzat" was also a top 5 hit in the United Kingdom. The band was less successful in the United States, where "Howzat" peaked at No. 61. As The Sherbs they also reached No. 61 in 1981 with "I Have the Skill". The group disbanded in 1984. Subsequent re-unions have occurred since 1998. Garth Ivan Richard Porter (born 24 September 1948) is a New Zealand-born Australian multi-instrumental musician, songwriter and record producer. He was a member, on keyboards and backing vocals, of the pop group, Sherbet (1970–84), and co-wrote both of their number-one singles, " Summer Love" (March 1975) and "Howzat" (May 1976). Porter is a co-writer and producer for country music singer Lee Kernaghan. Biography Garth Ivan Richard Porter was born on 24 September 1948 in Hamilton. His parents were farmers in the nearby rural area. He recalled that while growing up "I learnt piano for about six months so I had a rough idea of musical notation." Carson was an Australian blues rock and boogie rock band, which formed in January 1970 in Melbourne as Carson County Band. They had a top 30 hit single on the ''Go-Set'' National Top 40 with "Boogie" in September 1972. The group released their debut studio album, ''Blown'', in November on EMI and Harvest Records, which peaked at No. 14 on the ''Go-Set'' Top 20 Albums. Their performance at the second Sunbury Pop Festival in late January 1973 was issued as a live album, ''On the Air'', in April but the group had already disbanded.
