Alan Crosland
Alan Crosland (August 10, 1894 – July 16, 1936) was an American stage actor and film director. He is noted for having directed the first feature film using spoken dialogue, ''The Jazz Singer'' (1927). Early life and career Born in New York City, New York to a well-to-do Jewish family, Crosland attended Dartmouth College. After graduation, he took a job as a writer with the ''New York Globe'' magazine. Interested in the theatre, he began acting on stage, appearing in several productions with Shakespearian actress Annie Russell. Crosland began his career in the motion picture industry in 1912 at Edison Studios in The Bronx, New York, where he worked at various jobs for two years until he had learned the business sufficiently well to begin directing short films. By 1917, he was directing feature-length films and in 1920 directed Olive Thomas in ''The Flapper'', one of her final films before her death in September of that year. Walter McGrail
Walter B. McGrail (October 19, 1888 – March 19, 1970) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 150 films between 1916 and 1951. Besides feature films, he appeared in ''The Scarlet Runner'', a 12-chapter serial. McGrail was born in Brooklyn, New York, and died in San Francisco, California, at the age of 81. Jackson Bigelow Cooper (December 21, 1867 – 1953) was an American stage and screen character actor prominent in the silent film era. Biography Born in Springfield, Ohio in 1867, Cooper's early acting experience came in stock theater, including acting with the first stock company at the Murray Hill Theater in New York City. He began in films in 1911 and worked for such companies as Edison and Vitagraph. In 1915 Cooper and a friend were nearly killed in a road accident when their car overturned trapping them underneath.
