''The Cornet'' (german: Der Cornet. Die Weise von Liebe und Tod) is a 1955 West German historical film war film directed by Walter Reisch and starring Götz von Langheim, Anita Björk and Wolfgang Preiss.Davidson & Hake p.237 Set during the Great Turkish War, the film is related to the 1912 poem '' The Love and Death of Cornet Christopher Rilke'' by Rainer Maria Rilke. It was shot in Eastmancolor. Location filming took place in Würzburg in Bavaria. The film's sets were designed by the art director Wolf Englert. Walter Reisch
Walter Reisch (May 23, 1903 – March 28, 1983) was an Austrian-born director and screenwriter. He also wrote lyrics to several songs featured in his films, one popular title is "Flieger, grüß mir die Sonne". He was married to the dancer and actress Poldi Dur and was the cousin of Georg Kreisler. Fritz Heinrich Rasp (13 May 1891 – 30 November 1976) was a German film actor who appeared in more than 100 films between 1916 and 1976. His obituary in '' Der Spiegel'' described Rasp as "the German film villain in service, for over 60 years." Life and career Fritz Heinrich Rasp was the thirteenth child of a county surveyor. He was educated from 1908–1909 at the Theaterschule Otto Königin in Munich. He made his stage debut in 1909, after he successfully overcame a speech impediment. During his long career, the character actor appeared in some of the most famous theatres in Germany, working with acclaimed directors such as Bertolt Brecht and Max Reinhardt and famous actors such as Albert Bassermann, Joseph Schildkraut and Werner Krauss. Rasp made an early film debut in 1916 and appeared in some early films by his friend, director Ernst Lubitsch. Benno Sterzenbach (born 3 March 1916 Osnabrück - died 13 September 1985 Feldafing) was a German cinema and theatre actor and director. Biography His first major role on stage was ''Götz von Berlichingen'' at which he played next to Ellen Schwiers as Adelheid at the Jagsthausen festival. On television, he is mostly known for his roles in filmed theatrical adaptations: '' Der Richter und sein Henker'' (1957) by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, ''Der Schlaf der Gerechten'' (1962) by Albrecht Goes and ''Mirandolina'' (1963) by Carlo Goldoni. Suspected of espionage due to his editorial relations, he was arrested by the Gestapo in 1941, and imprisoned for a month, during which time he protested his innocence. He was eventually freed after his case was expedited. This episode was repeated in a number of his plays.
