''The Colony'' is a 2007 Canadian short film, written, directed, edited, and composed by Jeff Barnaby. The film stars Glen Gould as Maytag, a Mi'kmaq man dealing with the emotional fallout of a love triangle, when his girlfriend Myriam (Kaniehtiio Horn) runs off with his friend and drug dealer Jackson (Kent McQuaid). The film premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival. Jeff Barnaby
Jeff Barnaby (1976 – 13 October 2022) was a Canadian film director, writer, composer, and film editor. He is known for his horror films ''Rhymes for Young Ghouls'' and ''Blood Quantum''. Early life Barnaby was born on a Mi'kmaq reserve in Listuguj, Quebec, in 1976. He graduated from both the Dawson College and Concordia University film programs. Career Barnaby began his career directing short films. Barnaby's short film ''From Cherry English'' won two Golden Sheaf Awards: Best Aboriginal and Best Videography in the 2004 Yorkton Film Festival. His 2010 short film '' File Under Miscellaneous'' was nominated for a Genie Award for Best Live Action Short Drama. ''Rhymes for Young Ghouls'' marked Barnaby's feature film debut. Yorkton Film Festival (YFF) is an annual film festival held in late May in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 1947, the Yorkton Film Council (YFC) was founded and in 1950 the first international documentary film festival officially opened in western Canada on 11 October. The festival originally was named Yorkton International Documentary Film Festival and latter become known as Yorkton International Film Festival. In 1969, the Yorkton Film Council disbanded and the Yorkton International Film Festival Society was formed. ''Voir'' was a francophone alternative weekly newspaper in Montreal, Quebec, published by Communications Voir. ''Voir'' was founded by Pierre Paquet in November 1986. The first issue of the newspaper was published on 27 November 1986. Later on the newspaper developed various local issues with more targeted content. In 2013, the newspaper dropped from weekly to biweekly publication. ''The Daily Gleaner'' is a morning daily newspaper serving the city of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and the upper Saint John River Valley. The paper is published Monday through Saturday and began operating in 1880. In April 2006, the paper switched from afternoon to morning publication. The offices of the ''Daily Gleaner'' are located on Alison Boulevard on the city's south side. The ''Gleaner'', as it is called locally, is part of Brunswick News Inc. K.C.
