The Collection (Girlschool Album)
''The Collection'' is a double CD compilation album of the all-female British heavy metal band Girlschool. The album was released in 1998 by Renaissance Records, under licence from Castle Communications, and reissued in 2000 by Sanctuary Records, of which Castle had become a subsidiary. Castle was the owner of Girlschool back catalogue, acquired from Bronze and GWR. The compilation contains five previously unreleased live tracks. All the tracks of the album were re-mastered by Robert M. Corich and Mike Brown in August 1998. The first CD contains all the singles released by Girlschool since 1983 with their b-sides, including the duet with Motörhead on the song " Please Don't Touch", originally released on the EP ''St. Valentine's Day Massacre''. Girlschool
Girlschool are a British rock band that formed in the new wave of British heavy metal scene in 1978. Frequently associated with contemporaries Motörhead, they are the longest-running all-female rock band, still active after more than 40 years. Formed from a school band called Painted Lady, Girlschool enjoyed strong media exposure and commercial success in the UK in the early 1980s with three albums of 'punk-tinged metal' and a few singles, but lost their momentum in the following years. In the 1990s and 2000s, Girlschool focused on shows and tours and made few studio albums. During their career they travelled the world, playing in many rock and metal festivals and co-headlining with or supporting important hard rock and heavy metal bands. Robert Corich
Robert M. Corich is a remastering engineer and record producer, who started his career as an IBM mainframe operator, engineer and consultant where he wrote courses and books on the IBM mainframes and operating systems, often lecturing in these topics all over the world. His love of music then moved him into the audio world as a studio hand, moving onto engineering and production. Gary Glitter
Paul Francis Gadd (born 8 May 1944), best known by his stage name Gary Glitter, is an English former singer, songwriter, and record producer. He achieved success during the glam rock era of the 1970s and 1980s, and his career ended after he was imprisoned for downloading child pornography in 1999. He was also convicted of child sexual abuse in 2006 and attempted rape in 2015. After performing under the name Paul Raven in the 1960s, Gadd changed his stage name to Gary Glitter in the early 1970s and had a sustained solo UK chart run of hits including " Rock and Roll (Parts 1 and 2)", "Do You Wanna Touch Me", "I Love You Love Me Love", "I'm the Leader of the Gang (I Am)", and "Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again". "20th Century Boy" is a song by T. Rex, written by Marc Bolan, released as a stand-alone single on 2 March 1973. It entered in the UK Singles Chart at number 3, on 10 March 1973 and peaked three weeks in a row at that position. It stayed a total of nine weeks in the UK Chart. "Tush" is a song by American blues rock band ZZ Top and was the only single from their fourth album ''Fandango!''. The song was named the 67th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. Composition The song is a twelve-bar blues in the key of G in standard tuning. Bassist Dusty Hill has said the song was written at a sound check in about ten minutes. Headgirl was a collaboration between the English rock groups Motörhead and Girlschool, active occasionally between 1978 and 1981. They recorded '' St. Valentine's Day Massacre EP'', credited as Motör Headgirl School on the EP. History The collaboration between Motörhead and Girlschool started in March 1979, when Motörhead began their first big tour with '' Overkill'' and Girlschool were their opening act. "Fox on the Run" is a song by the British band Sweet, first recorded in 1974. It was the first Sweet single written by the band, rather than producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, and was their 14th single overall. The song became the best charting single in Australia in 1975, with six weeks at number one. Note: Used for Australian Singles and Albums charting from 1970 until ARIA created their own charts in mid-1988. Two versions were recorded by Sweet. The Sweet
The Sweet (often shortened to just Sweet), are a British glam rock band that rose to prominence in the 1970s. Their best known line-up consisted of lead vocalist Brian Connolly, bass player Steve Priest, guitarist Andy Scott, and drummer Mick Tucker. The group were originally called The Sweetshop. Tiger Feet is a popular song by the English glam rock band Mud, released in January 1974. Written and produced by the songwriting team of Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, it was the first of three number No. 1 singles for the band, in the UK Singles Chart. followed later that year by " Oh Boy!" and "Lonely This Christmas". The band appeared on Top of the Pops wearing tiger slippers.
