Bud Barsky
Isidor "Bud" Barsky (June 19, 1891 – December 18, 1967) was a screenwriter and film producer active mainly during the silent era. Born in Ukraine in what was then part of the Russian Empire, he emigrated to the United States as a young man and grew up in New York. At age 15, he toured Alaska's gold fields with a musical troupe. During the First World War, he served in the Signal Corps. He founded the eponymous Bud Barsky Corporation in 1924, which concentrated mainly on action and western films.Slide p.28 He also directed one film, ''The Coast Patrol'', in 1925. In the 1930s he was the general manager of Columbia Pictures, and he was a producer at MGM, Warner Bros., and Grand National. He died at the UCLA Medical Center in 1967. Vina Fay Wray (September 15, 1907 – August 8, 2004) was a Canadian/American actress best known for starring as Ann Darrow in the 1933 film ''King Kong (1933 film), King Kong''. Through an acting career that spanned nearly six decades, Wray attained international recognition as an actress in horror films. She has been dubbed one of the early "scream queens". After appearing in minor film roles, Wray gained media attention after being selected as one of the "WAMPAS Baby Stars" in 1926. This led to her being contracted to Paramount Pictures as a teenager, where she made more than a dozen feature films. Ernest Miller (March 7, 1885 – April 23, 1957) was an American cinematographer who was nominated for an Academy Award at the 1939 Oscars for Best Cinematography for the film ''Army Girl'', sharing the nomination with Harry J. Wild. He had nearly 350 film and television credits to his name, mostly Westerns, including some of the early episodes of '' Gunsmoke''. Location work on ''Army Girl'' was done primarily at the Iverson Movie Ranch in Chatsworth, Calif., where Miller cut his teeth in B-Westerns and became one of the most prolific—and one of the best—of the site's shooters during the course of his career. Kenneth MacDonald (born Kenneth Dollins; September 8, 1901 – May 5, 1972) was an American film actor. Born in Portland, Indiana, MacDonald made more than 220 film and television appearances between 1931 and 1970. His name is sometimes seen as Kenneth McDonald. Career MacDonald began his career as a stage actor. In 1923 he appeared in his first feature film, ''Slow as Lightning''. He came to Hollywood in the early 1930s, where he played small roles in low-budget, independent productions. In 1939 Kenneth MacDonald was signed by Columbia Pictures for the studio's Charles Starrett westerns. MacDonald perfected a cool, debonair demeanor, which usually masked an evil side as a con man, outlaw, or thief. Frank Spottiswoode Aitken (16 April 1868 – 26 February 1933) was a Scottish-American actor of the silent era. He played Dr. Cameron in D. W. Griffith's epic drama ''The Birth of a Nation''. Early years Aitken was born 16 April 1868 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Acting In his book, ''The King of the Movies: Film Pioneer Siegmund Lubin'', Joseph P. Eckhardt wrote that Aitken was "trained as a Shakespearean actor, with many years of experience under his belt." His film debut came in 1911. He eventually appeared in 81 feature films between 1914 and 1927. Businessman Aitken was one of the first actors to settle in Los Angeles when the film industry was still at its strongest in New York. He invested most of his earnings in real estate, buying up orange groves around what would become Hollywood.
