The Climbers (band)
The Climbers is a British band, formed by Nick Hemming and Christian Hardy of The Leisure Society with their childhood friend, Tim West. West introduced Hemming and Hardy to one another and for a period the three lived together in South London. Though formation of The Climbers predates The Leisure Society, their debut album ''The Good Ship'' was not released until May 2010. The album took over six years to make, and was recorded predominantly in hired cottages in Wales and Devon with additional sessions in South London, Brighton, Burton-On-Trent and Northumberland. It received mostly positive reviews, including 5/5 in '' The Sun'', 8/10 in '' Clash'' and 8/10 on ''The 405''. Their debut single, also titled "The Good Ship", received extensive support from radio DJs Bob Harris, Jon Richardson, Elbow's Guy Garvey and Marc Riley, who called it "Breathtaking, remarkable, really really amazing." ''The Climbers'' is a lost 1915 silent film produced by the Lubin Manufacturing Company and starring Gladys Hanson; it is the first filming of Clyde Fitch's 1901 play of the same name. Later versions of Fitch's play were made in 1919 as '' The Climbers'' with Corinne Griffith and in 1927 also as '' The Climbers'' with Irene Rich. Plot In order to keep his social-climbing wife and daughters in the lifestyle they are accustomed to, wealthy George Hunter makes some large investments in the stock market, but the stocks crash and he loses a great deal of money. ''The Climbers'' is a 1919 American silent comedy-drama film produced and distributed by the Vitagraph Company of America. It is based on Clyde Fitch's 1901 Broadway play. This film was directed by Tom Terriss and stars Corinne Griffith. A previous version of Fitch's play had been made in 1915 as '' The Climbers'' with Gladys Hanson and a later version in 1927 again as '' The Climbers'' with Irene Rich. A print is preserved in the Library of Congress. ''The Climbers'' is a 1927 silent film produced and distributed by Warner Bros. and presumed lost. The film stars Irene Rich and was directed by Paul Stein. It was based on a 1901 Clyde Fitch play of the same name, but bore scant resemblance to it. Previous versions of Fitch's play had been made, under the same name, in 1915 with Gladys Hanson and also in 1919 with Corinne Griffith. Plot The action takes place in Spain and Puerto Rico during the early 19th-century reign of Ferdinand VII. The Duchess of Arrogan (Irene Rich) is the victim of the machinations of court "climber" Countess Veya (Myrna Loy). The Countess arranges to hide the king's enemy, Duke Cordova (Forrest Stanley) in the Duchess's room where he is discovered resulting in the banishment of both to the colony of Puerto Rico, and the Duchess's estrangement from her powerful husband.
