The Clarity
"The Clarity" is a single by the American rock band Sleep. The song was released digitally for free on July 21, 2014 through the cable network Adult Swim's 2014 weekly singles series. The release of "The Clarity" also marks the first release of newly recorded material in almost 20 years. Later, it was re-released on February 10, 2017 via Southern Lord Records as a 12" vinyl pressing and recut by Adam Gonsalves. In 2021, it was remixed and reissued again on the EP ''Iommic Life'' via Third Man Records. Sleep reformed in 2009 and began performing live in addition to writing new riffs for future songs "sporadically". Adult Swim approached the band about releasing a new song as a part of its weekly singles series, and Sleep wrote "The Clarity" in "a couple days" separate from the other new material it had been working on. The band also commented that the song, "is an exercise in musical stream of thought, as all proper music should be" and that the lyrics are a "follow-up to a lifetime ...

Sleep (band)
Sleep is an American heavy metal band from San Jose, California. Guitarist Matt Pike and bassist and vocalist Al Cisneros have been the only constant members throughout its history, with several changes of drummers throughout their history. Critic Eduardo Rivadavia describes them as "perhaps the ultimate stoner rock band" and notes they exerted a strong influence on metal in the 1990s. The band first gained attention with their second album, '' Sleep's Holy Mountain'' (1992). However, conflict with the band's record company contributed to Sleep's breakup by the end of the decade. Sleep's third album, ''Dopesmoker'', was released after the band's dissolution. The band reformed in 2009 and has played sporadic live dates internationally since. In 2018, Sleep surprise-released their comeback album, ''The Sciences'', on Third Man Records, to critical acclaim. History Early years Sleep evolved in the early 1990s from the band Asbestosdeath, which was established by vocalist/bassis ...

Stoner Metal
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily distorted, groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. This hybrid has traits of both styles, but generally lacks stoner metal's laid back atmosphere and its usage of psychedelia. Bands such as Weedeater, High on Fire and Electric Wizard creatively fuse both styles. Terminology The descriptor "stoner rock" may originate from the title of the 1997 Roadrunner Records compilation ''Burn One Up! Music for Stoners''. Desert rock is also used interchangeably as a descriptor, and was coined by a MeteorCity Records intern, arou ...
