The Christian (1915 Film)
''The Christian'' is a 1915 British silent film directed by George Loane Tucker and starring Derwent Hall Caine and Elizabeth Risdon. The film is an adaptation of Hall Caine's 1897 novel ''The Christian''. This was the third film of the story, the first ''The Christian'' (1911) was made in Australia and the second ''The Christian'' (1914) was made in the United States. ''The Christian'' was made by the London Film company, which was at the time England's most highly regarded producing organisation and whose policy was to film works of the great authors. George Loane Tucker
George Loane Tucker (June 12, 1872 – June 20, 1921) was an American actor, silent film director, screenwriter, producer, and editor. Career Tucker was born George S. Loane in Chicago to George Loane and stage actress Ethel Tucker. After graduating from the University of Chicago, he got a job as a railroad clerk. He was chief clerk for the Maintenance of Way. Tucker was later the youngest man to be promoted to Contracting Freight Agent. After his first wife died while giving birth to the couple's son, Tucker quit his job. On the advice of friends, he began acting in stage productions. By the mid-1910s, films were becoming a more popular draw for audiences which led Tucker to film acting and scenario writing. In 1911, he wrote a script for the short drama film ''Their First Misunderstanding''. The film, which starred Mary Pickford, was a surprise hit. George Bellamy (10 July 1866 – 26 December 1944) was an English film actor of the silent era. He spent eighteen years on the stage before making his film debut in ''Wanted - A Husband''. He appeared in 70 films between 1911 and 1933. He also directed two films in 1917. He was born in Bristol, England.
