The Chinese Detective
''The Chinese Detective'' is a British television police procedural drama series, first transmitted by the BBC between 1981 and 1982. The series was created by Ian Kennedy Martin, who had previously devised '' The Sweeney'' and ''Juliet Bravo''. Plot The series starred British Chinese actor David Yip as Detective Sergeant John Ho. Yip became the first Chinese lead actor in any British television drama series. The series offered traditional police procedural storylines in a setting of occasional prejudice and distrust within the police force, and the prejudice displayed by those Ho encounters whilst doing his job. Like many other television detectives of the time, Ho was something of a maverick, often using unorthodox methods to solve crimes. The series was set in and around London's Docklands, before redevelopment began in the 1980s. The police show, or police crime drama, is a subgenre of procedural drama and detective fiction that emphasizes the investigative procedure of a police officer or department as the protagonist(s), as contrasted with other genres that focus on either a private detective, an amateur investigator or the characters who are the targets of investigations. While many police procedurals conceal the criminal's identity until the crime is solved in the narrative climax (the so-called whodunit), others reveal the perpetrator's identity to the audience early in the narrative, making it an inverted detective story. The Morris Minor is a British economy family car that made its debut at the Earls Court Motor Show, London, in October 1948. Designed under the leadership of Alec Issigonis, more than 1.6 million were manufactured between 1948 and 1972 in three series: the Series MM (1948 to 1953), the Series II (1952 to 1956), and the 1000 series (1956 to 1971). Initially available as a two-door saloon and tourer (convertible), the range was expanded to include a four-door saloon from September 1950. Keith Hodiak
Keith Hodiak is a Guyanese-born, British-based actor who was active on British TV and film between 1978 and 1992. Emigrating to the UK from Guyana in 1960, he became interested in dance when Lee Edwards visited his school in Stoke Newington to work with pupils to put together performance shows. After encouragement from Edwards, Hodiak was awarded a scholarship to train at Arts Educational Schools. This was followed by spending a year working in Germany before joining Ballet Rambert, at the time under director Norman Morrice. His acting debut came in 1978, when he took on the role of Sam Spade in ''Revenge of the Pink Panther''. In 1983, he played the part of the Raston Warrior Robot in the 20th anniversary special of ''Doctor Who'' – ''The Five Doctors''. David Sibley (actor)
David Sibley (born 16 July 1948) is an English actor. He is best known for character roles in several television series: as twisted radio DJ Tom Everett in BBC television detective series '' Shoestring'' (in the episode ''Mocking Bird''); and in ''Doctor Who'' as Pralix (in ''The Pirate Planet''). James Marcus (English Actor)
James Marcus (born Brian T. James, 23 June 1942) is an English actor. He is best known for his performance as Georgie, one of the droogs in Stanley Kubrick's controversial film ''A Clockwork Orange'' (1971). Before becoming an apprentice printer, he spent the majority of his teenage life performing gigs. After studying acting courses at the 15 Drama School in London, he had several roles in plays based on the works of Shakespeare. His first appearance on TV was the BBC show ''Hello, Good Evening and Welcome'' (1968). He also landed a role in the 1969 war comedy, ''The Virgin Soldiers''. Ahmed Khalil Sebait Mubarak Al-Junaibi ( ar, أحمد خليل سبيت مبارك الجنيبي; born 8 June 1991) is an Emirati footballer who plays as a forward for Al Bataeh and United Arab Emirates national team.
