The Child with a Moon on his Chest is a South African folktale from the Sotho people. It is related to the cycle of the ''Calumniated Wife'', and is classified in the international Aarne-Thompson-Uther Index as tale type ATU 707, "The Three Golden Children (folklore), The Three Golden Children". The Sotho () people, also known as the Basuto or Basotho (), are a Bantu nation native to southern Africa. They split into different ethnic groups over time, due to regional conflicts and colonialism, which resulted in the modern Basotho, who have inhabited the region of Lesotho, South Africa since around the fifth century CE. Basutoland
Basutoland was a British Crown colony that existed from 1884 to 1966 in present-day Lesotho.
