The Chatham News
''The Chatham News'' is a weekly newspaper based in Siler City, North Carolina and serving Chatham County, North Carolina. History Started in 1924, the newspaper has been family-owned for much of its history. E.A. Resch bought the newspaper, along with ''The Chatham Record'' of Pittsboro, in 1939. His son Alan Resch joined ''The Chatham News'' in 1962 and was replaced by wife Mary Resch as editor and publisher when he died in 2016. On October 25, 2018 ''The Chatham News'' announced that The Chatham News Publishing Company, Inc. had sold the newspapers to The Chatham Media Group LLC. The group included former '' Sanford Herald'' publisher Bill Horner III, Kirk Bradley, and Chris Ehrenfeld. Bradley and Ehrenfeld cared about the papers being locally owned. The newspaper was sold to ''North State Journal'' owner North State Media in May 2023. Siler City, North Carolina
Siler City is a town in western Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 7,702. History Siler City began when Plikard Dederic Siler and his wife, Elizabeth Hartsoe Siler, settled about four miles north of the town's current location. They had met aboard the ''Two Sisters'', a ship from Germany. The ship landed in Philadelphia, where Plikard paid leaf tobacco to marry Elizabeth. The couple briefly lived in Pennsylvania, then Virginia, and then settled near Lacy's Creek (the location near today's Siler City). They had ten children. In recent years, Siler City has become a suburb of Greensboro and the Research Triangle Park. Since 1997, it has developed as a center of industrial-scale poultry processing, and attracted numerous immigrants and Latinos for the jobs. Pittsboro, North Carolina
Pittsboro is a town in Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,743 at the 2010 census and 4,537 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Chatham County. The town was established in the late 18th century, shortly after the American Revolution, as the county seat for the newly formed Chatham County. In the years leading up to the United States civil war, the economy was dominated by small-scale farms that relied heavily on slave labor, and in the aftermath of the civil war, racial tensions were high, and the town was noted for a number of lynchings and other racial violence in the late 19th century. Industrialization came to the community in the 19th century, as a number of rivers cross the area providing locations for mills and factories. The Sanford Herald has a daily circulation of just over 9,000 and is published Tuesday through Saturday, and has published continuously since 1930. The newspaper is headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina.
