''The Center of the World'' is a 2001 American drama film directed by Wayne Wang and shot on digital video. It stars Peter Sarsgaard as a dot-com millionaire who hires a drummer/stripper (Molly Parker) to stay with him in Las Vegas for three days for US$10,000. The film was screened out of competition at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Plot A couple checks into a hotel suite in Las Vegas. ''The Center of the World'' (original German title: ''Die Mitte der Welt'') is a novel by Andreas Steinhöfel from 1998. It is a story about the problems of growing up, puberty, envy and jealousy, friendship and love. The novel was nominated for the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis, German Youth Literature Award. The book has been translated into English by Alisa Jaffa and was edited by Jonas Sachwitz. It was published in the UK under the title ''Centre of My World''. Plot The main plot of the novel begins when Phil's best friend Kat (whose actual name is "Katja") returns from her summer vacation with her family.
