The single was released on 20 March 2000 in the UK on CD and 10" vinyl, and charted at number 33 on the UK Singles Chart. The songs "The Cedar Room" and "Zither" made their first appearance on Doves' debut release '' Cedar EP''. NME named it as the 38th best track of the 2000s. Doves (band)
Doves are an English indie rock band formed in Manchester. The band is composed of twin brothers Jez Williams (guitar, vocals) and Andy Williams (drums, vocals), and Jimi Goodwin (bass, vocals, guitar). Additionally, the band employs Martin Rebelski, as a touring and session musician on keyboards. The band released four studio albums between 2000 and 2009, two of which reached #1 on the UK album charts. A compilation album, '' The Places Between: The Best of Doves'', was released in April 2010. Doves went on hiatus in 2010. During this time Goodwin released his first solo album, ''Odludek'' (2014), while the Williams brothers regrouped as Black Rivers. In December 2018, Doves announced they were ending their hiatus by performing for the Teenage Cancer Trust at London's Royal Albert Hall on 29 March 2019. ''Lost Souls'' is the debut studio album by British indie rock band Doves, released by Heavenly Recordings on 3 April 2000. The album was recorded over a period of several years, following the dissolution of Doves' original musical incarnation as house music act Sub Sub. ''Lost Souls'' was a moderate chart success in the UK; the album peaked at number 16, while the three singles taken from the album charted in the Top 40. ''Lost Souls'' is considered by many to be the best debut album since Oasis' ''Definitely Maybe''. It was met with positive critical acclaim and was a shortlist nominee for the Mercury Prize in 2000. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Heavenly Recordings is a London-based independent record label founded by Jeff Barrett in 1990. Heavenly released the first albums from Saint Etienne, Beth Orton and Doves, and early singles by Manic Street Preachers. Current Heavenly artists include Stealing Sheep, Mattiel, The Orielles, Confidence Man, audiobooks, Pip Blom, H. Jez Williams
Jeremy Francis "Jez" Williams (born 18 February 1970) is the guitarist/songwriter of Doves. He was born in Manchester, England, and is the twin brother of bandmate Andy and the son of noted modernist architect Desmond Williams. Before their incarnation as Doves, the three members were a dance-club music trio called Sub Sub. His earlier bands include Metro Trinity, whose first EP called "Die Young" was released in 1987 on Cafetieria Records, based in Hulme, Manchester. Members also included Tim Whiteley, Colin Rocks, Pete Zichovitch and Jonny Male, who later became the main songwriter/guitarist in the band Republica. Williams played guitar on Republica's debut album ''Republica. Jimi Goodwin
Jimi Goodwin (born Jamie Francis Alexander Goodwin 28 May 1970 in Manchester) is the bassist, vocalist and guitarist for Doves. Before their incarnation as Doves, the three members were in a house music group, Sub Sub. Goodwin is best known as the lead singer, bassist, and guitarist for Doves, but in songs like "Here It Comes", he is known for swapping positions with drummer Andy Williams and taking over as drummer. During live performances of " There Goes the Fear", he is known for adding an extra drum solo to the end of the song. Goodwin is left-handed, but whilst playing live uses a right-handed bass strung in the normal tuning and flipped upside down. Goodwin is a keen supporter of Manchester City, and performed live at Maine Road following the last league game played there. Andrew Sebastian Williams (born 18 February 1970) is the drummer and vocalist of Doves. He is the son of noted modernist architect Desmond Williams and the twin brother of bandmate Jez. Catch The Sun
"Catch the Sun" is the second single from Doves' debut studio album '' Lost Souls''. The single was released on 29 May 2000 in the UK on 2 CDs and 10" vinyl, and charted at number 32 on the UK Singles Chart. The psychedelic, kaleidoscopic music video for "Catch the Sun" was directed by Sophie Muller. Jamie Cullum covered "Catch the Sun" on his album '' Catching Tales''. "Down to Sea" is an early demo of " Sea Song." The B-sides for CD2 are songs from Doves' previous incarnation as Sub Sub. Cedar EP
''Cedar'' is the debut EP from Doves, the first release from the band after the dissolution of their previous incarnation, Sub Sub. It was self-released on the band's Casino Records label (co-founded by Rob Gretton) on 9 November 1998 on limited 10" vinyl.
