Robert Vernay (May 30, 1907 in Paris – October 17, 1979 in Paris) was a French director and screenwriter. Career In 1937, Vernay worked as assistant director to Julien Duvivier on ''Pépé le Moko''. In 1944, Vernay directed an adaptation of Balzac's ''Père Goriot'', starring Pierre Renoir. It was released in 1945. In the late 1950s, he directed a "tacky comedy" called '' Madame et son auto''. Gabrielle Anna Charlotte Robinne (1 July 1886 – 18 December 1980) was a French stage and film actress whose career spanned over sixty years. Career Born in Montluçon, Allier, France, Robinne was a pupil of Maurice de FĂ©raudy at the Paris Conservatory. In 1904 she entered the company of Sarah Bernhardt and for a year she joined the Theatre Michel in St. Petersburg, Russia. Her career blossomed while performing at the ComĂ©die-Française in 1907 and she became a '' sociĂ©taire'' in 1924 and remained there until 1938. She made her film debut in the 1906 Segundo de ChomĂłn-directed short ''Le troubadour''. She is often regarded by critics to be the first French star of the silent film era. ''Sylvette'' is a large concrete sculpture created by Pablo Picasso and the Norwegian artist Carl Nesjar, which was erected in the city of Rotterdam in 1970. It is located on the corner of Westersingel next to the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The sculpture portrays a young woman with a ponytail. The model for the sculpture was Sylvette David, whom Picasso met in 1953 when she was 19. The sculpture was produced following the creation of a series of artworks, known as the ''Sylvette'' series, that Picasso made of his muse in a variety of artistic styles. After emigrating to France, Gridoux began his film career in 1931, playing mainly in roles of traitors. In 1935, he was Judas in Julien Duvivier's Golgotha, and then in 1937, Inspector Slimane, a sworn enemy of Jean Gabin in Pépé le Moko, by the same director. He died in 1952 at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, and was buried at the city's Père Lachaise Cemetery. Huguette Duflos (24 August 1887, Limoges – 12 April 1982, Paris) was a French stage and film actress. Life In 1910, she married the actor RaphaĂ«l Duflos, from whom she was divorced around 1928.
