The Cannon And Ball Show
''The Cannon and Ball Show'' was a successful comedy variety show on ITV featuring the double act comprising Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball. The pair were booked to perform on seven episodes of ''Bruce Forsyth's Big Night'', but not all of their segments were screened, as producers were trying to shore up ratings and decided to give Forsyth more air time instead. During this time, LWT's then director of programmes Michael Grade watched the dropped clips and decided to give the pair their own television series. Cannon & Ball's first regular television series was filmed by LWT and lasted nine years, until December 1988. After the series ended, the pair went on to ''Cannon and Ball's Casino'', a Saturday-night game show for Yorkshire Television in 1990, and ''Plaza Patrol ''Plaza Patrol'' is a short-lived 1991 British television sitcom A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly c ...

Sketch Comedy
Sketch comedy comprises a series of short, amusing scenes or vignettes, called "sketches", commonly between one and ten minutes long, performed by a group of comic actors or comedians. The form developed and became popular in vaudeville, and is used widely in variety shows, comedy talk shows, and some sitcoms and children's television series. The sketches may be improvised live by the performers, developed through improvisation before public performance, or scripted and rehearsed in advance like a play. Sketch comedians routinely differentiate their work from a "skit", maintaining that a skit is a (single) dramatized joke (or "bit") while a sketch is a comedic exploration of a concept, character, or situation.Sketch

''Bruce Forsyth's Big Night'' is a TV show screened on ITV on Saturday nights in late 1978. It starred Bruce Forsyth. 12 episodes were broadcast between 7 October and 31 December 1978. Two further one-off specials were shown on 4 April 1980 and 21 September 1980 where Forsyth got the chance to perform an hour long show with idol and long-time friend Sammy Davis Jr, who had been a guest on an earlier show, which Forsyth later said was the best show he'd ever been associated with.
