''The Californian'' is a 1937 American Western film directed by Gus Meins and written by Gordon Newell and Gilbert Wright. The film stars Ricardo Cortez, Marjorie Weaver, Katherine DeMille, Maurice Black, Morgan Wallace and Nigel De Brulier. The film was released on July 18, 1937, by 20th Century Fox. Plot The story follows Ramon Escobar who comes back to California after attending school in Spain, and finds corrupt politicians mistreating the people of California. Gus Meins
Gus Meins (March 6, 1893 – August 1, 1940), born Gustave Peter Ludwig Luley, was an American film director. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany. Career Meins started out in the 'teens as a cartoonist for the Los Angeles Evening Herald before becoming a comedy writer for Fox in 1919. In the 1920s, Meins directed a number of silent short subjects film series for Universal Pictures, including the ''Buster Brown'' comedies. He is best known as senior director of Hal Roach's ''Our Gang'' comedies from 1934 to 1936, and also as director of Laurel and Hardy's '' Babes in Toyland'' (1934). His assistant director was a young Gordon Douglas, who became senior director in 1936 when Meins left ''Our Gang'' for other directing jobs at Roach. George Regas
George Thomas Regas ( Greek: Γεώργιος Θωμάς Ρεγάκος; November 9, 1890 – December 13, 1940) was a Greek American actor. Biography Regis was born in the village of Goranoi near Sparta, Greece, the brother of actor Pedro Regas. He was a stage actor in Athens before coming to the United States. In New York City he played Romeo in a Grecian version of '' Romeo and Juliet''.''Character People'', First Edition, Citadel Press, 1977; In 1921, Regas acted in his first motion picture, ''The Love Light'' with Mary Pickford. He was known for voice roles for various classic animated characters, most notably Pete in Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse short films and the Big Bad Wolf in Disney's '' Three Little Pigs''.
