The Calculus Affair
''The Calculus Affair'' (french: link=no, L'Affaire Tournesol) is the eighteenth volume of ''The Adventures of Tintin'', the comics series by the Belgian cartoonist Hergé. It was serialised weekly in Belgium's ''Tintin'' magazine from December 1954 to February 1956 before being published in a single volume by Casterman in 1956. The story follows the attempts of the young reporter Tintin, his dog Snowy, and his friend Captain Haddock to rescue their friend Professor Calculus, who has developed a machine capable of destroying objects with sound waves, from kidnapping attempts by the competing European countries of Borduria and Syldavia. Like the previous volume, ''Explorers on the Moon'', ''The Calculus Affair'' was created with the aid of Hergé's team of artists at Studios Hergé. Casterman is a publisher of Franco-Belgian comics, specializing in comic books and children's literature. The company is based in Brussels, Belgium. History The company was founded in 1780 by Donat-Joseph Casterman, an editor and bookseller originally from Tournai.Bocquet, José-Louis, and Fromental, Jean-Luc. The Studios Hergé were, between 1950 and 1986, a Société à responsabilité limitée, SARL company consisting of Belgian cartoonist Hergé and his collaborators, who assisted him with the creation of ''The Adventures of Tintin'' and derived products. Over the years, the studios had between 12 and 50 employees, including some prestigious artists like Jacques Martin (comics), Jacques Martin, Bob de Moor and Roger Leloup. Every creation produced by the studios was attributed to Hergé alone, except for three albums of ''Quick & Flupke'' which are attributed to Studios Hergé on the cover. Raymond Leblanc (born 22 May 1915 – 21 March 2008) was a Belgian comic book publisher, film director and film producer, best known for publishing works such as ''The Adventures of Tintin'' by Hergé and ''Blake and Mortimer'' by Edgar P. Jacobs. He debuted, published, and promoted many of the most famous Franco-Belgian comics. Leblanc and his two partners created Le Lombard publishing, ''Tintin'' magazine, PubliArt advertising agency, and Belvision Studios.
