The Butler Arms Hotel
The Butler Arms Hotel is located in the town of Waterville in Kerry County, Ireland. The hotel opened in 1884 and has a written history closely linked with the history of Ireland. Overview The Butler Arms opened in 1884 and is situated on the southern tip of the Ring of Kerry, along the south-west coast of Ireland, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel is close to Valentia Island and Skellig Rocks, home to an early Christian monastic settlement and one of the biggest bird colonies in Europe, as well as Lough Currane and Waterville Golf Club. History The hotel was opened in 1884 by the McElligott family. From 1915 to 2022 it was owned by the Huggard Family who ran it for four generations. Alfred Perceval Graves (22 July 184627 December 1931), was an Anglo-Irish poet, songwriter and folklorist. He was the father of British poet and critic Robert Graves. Early life Graves was born in Dublin and was the son of The Rt Rev. Papal Count John Francis McCormack, KSG, KSS, KHS (14 June 1884 – 16 September 1945), was an Irish tenor celebrated for his performances of the operatic and popular song repertoires, and renowned for his diction and breath control.
