The Bush Tucker Man
Major Leslie James Hiddins AM (born 13 August 1946 in Brisbane, Queensland), known as "The Bush Tucker Man" is a retired Australian Army soldier and war veteran who is best known for his love and knowledge of the Australian bush. Hiddins is recognized by his distinctively modified Akubra hat and big cheesy grin. Military service As a soldier with the Australian Army, Hiddins did two deployments in South Vietnam between 1966 and 1968, the first as a forward scout in the infantry. In 1980, he was awarded a Defence Fellowship to research survival in northern Australia. He was the principal author of the Australian Army's military survival manual (1987). As part of this research, Hiddins was introduced to the Kakadu plum (''Terminalia ferdinandiana'') by the Aboriginal people, who had used the plant for thousands of years. Kimberley Region Of Western Australia
The Kimberley is the northernmost of the nine regions of Western Australia. Steve Irwin
Stephen Robert Irwin (22 February 19624 September 2006), known as "The Crocodile Hunter", was an Australian zookeeper, conservationist, television personality, wildlife educator, and environmentalist. Irwin grew up around crocodiles and other reptiles and was educated regarding them by his father Bob. He achieved international fame from the television series ''The Crocodile Hunter'' (1996–2007), an internationally broadcast wildlife documentary series that he co-hosted with his wife Terri. The couple also hosted the series ''Croc Files'' (1999–2001), ''The Crocodile Hunter Diaries'' (2002–2006), and ''New Breed Vets'' (2005). They also co-owned and operated Australia Zoo, founded by Irwin's parents in Beerwah, about north of the Queensland state capital of Brisbane. They had two children, Bindi and Robert. Malcolm Douglas (documentary Maker)
Malcolm Douglas (14 March 1941 – 23 September 2010) was an Australian wildlife documentary film maker, and crocodile hunter. Douglas started in the 1960s as a professional crocodile hunter and farmer, but later dedicated himself to their preservation. Biography In 1964, 23-year-old Malcolm Douglas and his friend David Oldmeadow ditched their jobs as stock and station agents in the Riverina region of New South Wales and set off on a six-month trip around Australia. Six months turned into four years. It was a journey that shaped Douglas' future. As the pair travelled and explored, they filmed their adventures. The film later turned into the documentary ''Across the Top'', which still holds the rating record for a documentary on Australian television. He went on to produce more than 50 documentaries and films for Channel Seven and Channel Nine. Raymond Paul Mears (born 7 February 1964) is a British woodsman, instructor, businessman, author and TV presenter. His TV appearances cover bushcraft and survival techniques. Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park
Rinyirru (Lakefield) is a national park in Lakefield, Shire of Cook, Queensland, Australia, 1,707 km northwest of Brisbane and 340 km north-west of Cairns by road, on Cape York Peninsula. At 5,370 km2 (2,073 sq. miles) - making it bigger than Trinidad and Tobago and almost as big as Brunei - Rinyirru is the second largest park in Queensland and a popular place for fishing and camping. The park stretches from Princess Charlotte Bay in the north to the town of Laura. It covers 537,000 ha of land, and includes sections of the Normanby River, Morehead River and North Kennedy Rivers, as well as lakes, billabongs and wetlands. There are more than 100 permanent riverine lagoons in the park. There is one main, unsealed road (Lakefield Road) through the park but it is impassable through much of the wet season, when the park closes.
