The Burning Man (The Twilight Zone)
"The Burning Man" is the second segment of the eighth episode from the first season (1985–86) of the television series ''The Twilight Zone''. It is based on Ray Bradbury's short story "The Burning Man", first published in his collection ''Long After Midnight'' (1976). A very direct adaption which recreates much of the dialogue word-for-word, it deals with a boy and his aunt who, while driving on an isolated country road, encounter a crazed hitchhiker who claims to be an evil creature with a life cycle similar to a periodical cicada. Plot On a hot summer day in 1936 Kansas, a boy and his aunt Neva are driving along a country road. They pick up an old man in raggedy clothes who hails them to stop. The Twilight Zone (1985 TV Series)
''The Twilight Zone'' is an anthology television series which was constructed from September 27, 1985 to April 15, 1989. It is the first of three revivals of Rod Serling's acclaimed 1959–64 television series, and like the original it featured a variety of speculative fiction, commonly containing characters from a seemingly normal world stumbling into paranormal circumstances. Unlike the original, however, most episodes contained multiple self-contained stories instead of just one. The voice-over narrations were still present, but were not a regular feature as they were in the original series; some episodes had only an opening narration, some had only a closing narration, and some had no narration at all. The multi-segment format liberated the series from the usual time constraints of episodic television, allowing stories ranging in length from 8-minutes to 40-minute mini-movies. Alan Brennert
Alan Brennert (born May 30, 1954 in Englewood, New Jersey) is an American author, television producer, and screenwriter. Brennert has lived in Southern California since 1973 and completed graduate work in screenwriting at the University of California, Los Angeles. Career Television Alan Brennert's earliest television work was in 1978 when he wrote several scripts for the ''Wonder Woman'' series. He was story editor for the NBC series '' Buck Rogers in the 25th Century'' and wrote seven scripts for that series. He won an Emmy Award as a producer and writer for ''L.A. Law'' in 1991. For fans of science fiction and fantasy, he might be best known as a writer for the revival series ''The Twilight Zone'' and '' The Outer Limits''.
