The British Horse Society Equestrian Hall Of Fame
The British Horse Society Equestrian Hall of Fame was launched in 2005 to pay homage to the people and horses who have made outstanding contributions to the sport of Equestrianism in Great Britain. Elections to the Hall of Fame are made by a Panel of laureates and the British Horse Society Chairman. The panel meets annually to consider suggestions put forward from within the panel, BHS Members, and by the general public. On 20 February, 2008 a wall of plaques at the Household Cavalry’s barracks in Knightsbridge, London were revealed in a ceremony by Anne, Princess Royal. Hall Of Fame
A hall, wall, or walk of fame is a list of individuals, achievements, or other entities, usually chosen by a group of electors, to mark their excellence or Wiktionary:fame, fame in their field. In some cases, these halls of fame consist of actual halls or museums that enshrine the honorees with sculptures, plaques, and displays of memorabilia and general information regarding the inducted recipients. Anna Sewell
Anna Sewell (; 30 March 1820 – 25 April 1878)''The Oxford guide to British women writers'' by Joanne Shattock. p. 385, Oxford University Press. (1993) was an English novelist. She is known as the author of the 1877 novel ''Black Beauty'', her only published work, which is considered one of the top ten best selling novels for children, although the author intended the work for an adult audience. Jennie Loriston-Clarke
Jennie Loriston-Clarke MBE (born 22 January 1943) is a British equestrian. She competed at the 1972, 1976, 1984 and the 1988 Summer Olympics. After her riding career, Loriston-Clarke was active as an international Eventing and Dressage judge on 4* level and as Technical Delegate. Biography Loriston-Clarke was born in Charmouth, England, in 1943. From 1972 to 1988, she competed at four Olympic Games, only missing the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. Her best individual performance was 14th place in the dressage at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. She retired from competition in 1995. In 1979, Loriston-Clarke was awarded with an MBE for her services to equestrianism, and in 2006 she became the first person to be awarded with the Queen's Award for Equestrianism. Carl Hester
Carl Hester (born 29 June 1967 in Cambridgeshire, England) is a British dressage rider competing at Olympic level. As of 8 August 2012 the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) rank him 12th in the world riding Uthopia. In 2012, Hester formed part of the Great Britain Dressage team that won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Early life and career Hester was raised by his mother and stepfather. He lived on the Channel Island of Sark from the age of four, and was educated at Elizabeth College in Guernsey. His biological father is the actor Tony Smee. Aged 19 he applied for a job with horses in the UK at The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy and on the centre's skewbald mare, Jolly Dolly, he won the 1985 Young Dressage Rider Championship. John Whitaker (equestrian)
John Whitaker MBE (born 5 August 1955, Huddersfield) is a British equestrian and Olympian who competes in show jumping. He has won numerous international medals including an olympic silver medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles. He is also the managing director of John Whitaker International Limited which produces tack and equestrian clothing. Showjumping John and his brother Michael have both been competing for decades at the highest international level. Whitaker has enjoyed success across four decades. Sir David Lee Pearson (born 4 February 1974) is a 14-times Paralympic Games gold medallist, having represented British para-equestrianism in Sydney, Athens, Beijing, London, Rio, and Tokyo. Over the course of his career he has won 30 gold medals at European, World and Paralympic level. Lucinda Green
Lucinda Jane Green (née Prior-Palmer, born 7 November 1953) is a British equestrian and journalist who competed in eventing. She is the 1982 World Champion and twice European Champion (1975–77). She also won World team Gold (1982), three European team golds (1977, 1985, 1987) and an Olympic silver medal in the team event in 1984. Between 1973 and 1984, she won a record six times at the Badminton Horse Trials (on six different horses). She also won the Burghley Horse Trials in 1977 and 1981. Pippa Funnell
Philippa Rachel "Pippa" Funnell MBE (née Nolan, 7 October 1968) is an equestrian sportswoman who competes in eventing. In 2003, she became the first person to win the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing (consecutive wins at Rolex Kentucky, Badminton and Burghley). She also won Badminton in 2002 and 2005. At the European Championships, she has won two Individual golds (1999–2001) and three team golds (1999–2003). Marius Silver Jubilee, better known as '' Milton'' (16 February 1977 – 4 July 1999) was a successful showjumping horse ridden by John Whitaker (equestrian), John Whitaker. He was a Gray (horse), grey gelding and stood {{hands, 16.2 high at the withers. Biography Foaled in 1977, Milton was by Dutch Warmblood Marius, out of Irish Draught Aston Answers. His lines included successful sportshorses in both paternal and maternal lines, his sire being an international level and his dam a Grade A national level jumper. Foxhunter
Foxhunter (1940–1959) was a champion show jumping horse ridden by Harry Llewellyn, best known for their part in securing Great Britain's only gold medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics (in the Team Jumping equestrian event). They also were part of the British Show Jumping Team at the 1948 Summer Olympics, winning the bronze medal, and at many other international events. Foxhunter and Llewellyn are the only horse and rider to win the King George V Gold Cup three times (in 1948, 1950, and 1953), and won 78 international competitions during their joint career. Llewellyn bought Foxhunter, a golden-bay gelding, in 1947 following a search that began by studying the records of every registered showjumper on file with the British Show Jumping Association. Sefton (army Horse)
Sefton (1963–1993) was a British Army horse who served for 17 years from 1967 to 1984, coming to prominence when he was critically injured in the Hyde Park and Regent's Park bombings which, combined, killed seven other horses and eleven people. He recovered sufficiently to return to active service and was subsequently awarded "Horse of the Year". Sefton became one of the first horses to be placed in the British Horse Society's equestrian Hall of Fame, and with an annual award named after him.
