''The Brave and the Bold'' is a 2006 collaborative studio album by Tortoise and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. It was released on Overcoat Recordings. It consists of interpretations of ten songs originally by a wide range of musicians. Critical reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 65, based on 28 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Tortoise (band)
Tortoise is an American post-rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1990. The band incorporates krautrock, dub, minimal music, electronica and jazz into their music, a combination sometimes termed "post-rock". Tortoise have been consistently credited for the rise of the post-rock movement in the 1990s. History 1990s The group's origins lie in the late 1980s pairing of Doug McCombs (bassist with Eleventh Dream Day) and drummer John Herndon, who initially wanted to establish themselves as a freelance rhythm section (like reggae legends Sly and Robbie). "Thunder Road" is a 1975 song written and recorded by Bruce Springsteen, that became the opening track on his breakthrough album ''Born to Run''. One of the artist's most popular songs, while never released as a single, "Thunder Road" is ranked as one of Springsteen's greatest songs and one of the top rock songs in history. Quix*o*tic was a rock band active from 1997 to 2002 in the area of Washington, D.C., United States. They were known for their blend of R&B and doo wop with a Gothic outlook. History Quix*o*tic formed in 1997. The original line-up was guitarist/vocalist Christina Billotte, drummer/vocalist Mira Billotte, and bassist/vocalist Brendan Majewski. Majewski left in 2001 and was replaced by Mick Barr. The band broke up in 2003 with Mira moving to NYC to form White Magic. The band was well received and opened for Fugazi at their last U.S. show to date on July 1, 2002, at Fort Reno Park in Washington, D.C. Richard Thompson (musician)
Richard Thompson (born 3 April 1949) is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Thompson first gained prominence in the late 1960s as the lead guitarist and songwriter for the folk rock group Fairport Convention, which he had co-founded in 1967. After departing the group in 1971, Thompson released his debut solo album ''Henry the Human Fly'' in 1972. The next year, he formed a duo with his then-wife Linda Thompson, which produced six albums, including the critically acclaimed ''I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight'' (1974) and ''Shoot Out the Lights'' (1982). Devo (, originally ) is an American rock band from Akron, Ohio, formed in 1973. Lungfish is an American rock band formed in 1987 in Baltimore, Maryland. All of their music has been released by the Washington, D.C. punk label Dischord, except for their first album.
