Moving Picture World
The ''Moving Picture World'' was an influential early trade journal for the American film industry, from 1907 to 1927. An industry powerhouse at its height, ''Moving Picture World'' frequently reiterated its independence from the film studios. In 1911, the magazine bought out ''Views and Film Index''. Its reviews illustrate the standards and tastes of film in its infancy, and shed light on story content in those early days. By 1914, it had a reported circulation of approximately 15,000. The publication was founded by James Petrie (J.P.) Chalmers, Jr. (1866–1912), who began publishing in March 1907 as ''The Moving Picture World and View Photographer''. In December 1927, it was announced that the publication was merging with the ''Exhibitor's Herald'', when it was reported the combined circulation of the papers would be 16,881. The ''New York Dramatic Mirror'' (1879–1922) was a prominent theatrical trade newspaper. History The paper was founded in January 1879 by Ernest Harvier as the ''New York Mirror''. In stating its purpose to cover the theater, it proclaimed that coverage of the dramatic profession had been "degraded by having its affairs treated in the professedly theatrical papers side by side with prize fights, cocking matches, baseball, and other sports." This referred to competitors such as the ''New York Clipper''. The word "Dramatic" was inserted in the title in 1889, and the "New York" dropped in 1917. Alice Hollister
Alice Hollister (born Rosalie Alice Amélie Berger, September 28, 1886 – February 24, 1973) was an American silent film actress who appeared in around 90 films between 1910 and 1925. She is known for her roles in movies such as ''From the Manger to the Cross'' and '' The Vampire''. Biography Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Hollister was the last of six siblings. Her parents Pierre Napoleon Berger, a grocery clerk, and Marie Alphonse Foisy were both of French-Canadian ancestry. Convent educated in the United States and Canada, in 1905 she began to work as an artist and lived with her brother Henry in Manhattan, along with his wife and three children. On November of the same year, she married George K. Hollister who a few years later became a pioneer cinematographer with Kalem Studios in New York City. Helen Lindroth (December 3, 1874 – October 5, 1956) was a Swedish-born American screen and stage actress. Biography Lindroth acted on stage with the Boston Museum Stock Company and in New York City before entering motion pictures with the Kalem Company and Famous Players. Her Broadway credits include ''The Nest Egg'' (1910), ''The Call of the Cricket'' (1910), and ''Springtime'' (1909). In 1911, Lindroth made a one-reel film for Kalem. She performed in the film adaptation of ''The Swan'' (1925) and in ''The Song and Dance Man'' (1926), produced by George M. Cohan. Vincent James Russo (born January 24, 1961) is an American professional wrestling booker, writer, and pundit. Henry Hallam (August 7, 1850 – November 11, 1921) was a British-born operatic tenor and early film actor who began his five decade career singing on stage in England and then Australia and on tour in Australasia and India. He later appeared in silent films in the United States. Early career He was born as Henry Samuel Hallam Mayer in Clerkenwell in London in 1850, one of four children born to Elizabeth ''née'' Williams and Martin Mayer, a furrier of 8 Greystoke Place, Fetter Lane. Thomas J. Moore (May 1, 1883 – February 12, 1955) was an Irish-American actor and director. He appeared in at least 186 motion pictures from 1908 to 1954. Frequently cast as the romantic lead, he starred in silent movies as well as in some of the first talkies. Born in Fordstown Crossroads in May 1883 , County Meath, Moore, along with his brothers, Owen, Matt, and Joe, and their sister Mary (1890–1919), he emigrated to the United States as a steerage passenger on board the S.S.
